“2024 at a glance in 2024, miles of love was able to make the following donations to support pediatric patients born with congenital heart defects and their families: - 5000 in a heart fund at the children's hospital of kings daughters, (chkd), that pays for expenses such as lodging, gas, and toll bills. - over 3000 donated in meal support to chd families. - financial assistance provided for 5 chd families. - donated over 200 holiday gifts to patients in the hospital and their siblings. - provided snack bags to 120 families at chkd in norfolk, va. - supported over 200 chd families in 2024. - 40 handmade hats for newborns and infants donated to chkd for chd patients. - educational posts and heart warrior stories shared to create a community of support for chd families and spread awareness about congenital heart defects. Program highlights snack bags our snack bags are designed to be a grab and go for parents who are at bedside, devoting their time to their heart warrior in the pediatric icu. We include water, healthy snacks, sweet treats, hand sanitizer, lotion, tissues, and other essentials to help parents and caregivers make it through a stressful day. These bags are available during the week as well as the weekend. Financial support hospital stays for chd caregivers create immense financial strain. Through this program miles of love is able to provide assistance in paying essential bills such as water, gas, electricity, car payments, mortgages, and phone bills. We provide this assistance for families who are currently inpatient and are experiencing a financial struggle. One parent said: "my son is currently in the hospital waiting for a heart transplant. My husband and i both struggled with finances a couple of months ago while staying in the hospital with him. Miles of love stepped in to help us. We felt relieved that we received help while staying at the hospital." community awareness and advocacy miles of love continued to raise awareness of congenital heart defects through events, partnerships, and public outreach. In 2024 we: - partnered with local and distant hospitals to connect with families. - reached over 1,400 community members and had over 5,000 interactions on social media. - shared dozens of heart warrior stories to spread hope and awareness.”
