Mission

The waikiki business improvement district association (wbida) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation formed pursuant to honolulu city ordinance number 00-40 for the purpose of implementing and managing the service programs designed to improve security, sanitation, and combat community deterioration in the waikiki area of honolulu. The wbida activities supplement the level of services provided to the area by the city and county of honolulu.

To enhance the quality of life in waikiki by providing businesses, visitors, employees and residents of waikiki with a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment in which to live, work, and play.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 6

Wbida has three classes of members. The class a membership shall be composed of the fee simple owners and ground lessees of record of the real property located within the city and county of honolulu business improvement district no. One. The class b membership shall be composed of tenants leasing space pursuant to a commercial lease within the district who have applied for membership by filling out a registration form at the principal office of the association and who have received approval thereof and been admitted to membership. The class c membership shall be composed of (i) fee simple owners of record of real property, and ground lessees of record where applicable, located within the district who are exempt from assessment, (ii) nonvoting members of the board or their designees; and (iii) such other persons or entities who have an interest in the mission and charitable purposes of the district and who have applied for membership in the association by filling out a registration form at the principal office of the association and who have received approval thereof and been admitted to membership. Class b and c members will be required to renew their registration forms and admission status on an annual basis.
