“The organization's finance and administration manager, executive director, and external legal counsel reviewed the form 990. A complete copy was provided to each member of the board of directors for an opportunity to review and comment prior to filing the return.”
“Each board member is required to annually renew their conflict of interest statement. The statement shall disclose all material business, financial and organizational interests and affiliations. These statements are reviewed annually by the chair of the board.”
“Governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements are available to the public upon request.”
“No compensation is paid in us dollars. All employees live in kenya and are paid in kenyan shilling. No w-2's or 1099's are issued.”
“The organization did not change its oversight process or selection process during the tax year.”
“Afidep has initiated the process of obtaining income tax exemption from authorities in kenya. Whilst the organisation does not have income tax exemption for the kenya operations, the organisation deals in activities which are not for profit and therefore the directors are of the view that the organisation would not be subject to tax. Directors have taken into consideration part ii section 3(2) of the income tax act and schedule 10 of the income tax act that exempts organisations that are established solely for the purpose of relief of poverty or distress of the public or for religion or education benefits of residents in kenya. In malawi, afidep was granted diplomatic status and is therefore exempt from tax. Therefore, no provision for current or deferred tax is recognised in these financial statements.”
“Loss on disposal of vehicle 36,003.”
