“OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Auju Environmental Education Center is for environmental education and eco-tourism development. The Jordan River Valley is the focal point, teaching visitors and students about the geology, fauna, flora, water resources and and cultural heritage of Wadi Auja and Jordan Rift. Emphasis is made for the need to protect the nature reserve and wisely utilize scarce water reserves. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Protecting Groundwater: To address the lack of awareness and the capacity to deal with sources of pollution to groundwater by setting up collaborative training programs for municipal staff from selected Mediterranean Basin municipalities. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Water Accord: The 1993 Oslo process between Israel and the Palestinian Authority created a temporary arrangement for water distribution between the two bodies, but a final agreement on water and other issues has yet to be reached. Given the dire Palestinian need for more water availability, Israel's new water supply due to large scale desalination and a joint need to deal with untreated sewage, restarting negotiations with water as a first priority makes eoonomic, ecological and most importantly, politacal sense. An agreement on water would greatly improve the current living conditions of both peoples. For Palestinians, it would increase fresh water availability and for Israelis it would remove pollutants from the rivers and streams that flow through its main cities. The agreement struck would be a Final Accord on Water and not another interim process. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: Green Economy Initiatives: Project aims to advance economic benefits through cross-border cooperation among enterprises in neighboring communities working towards sustainable use of shared environmental resources. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: Peace Park (Bakura National Park): Proposed to combine two adjacent areas - Al Bakoora/Naharayim - where a small island was created at the junction of the Jordan and Yarmouk Rivers and the Jeser Al Majam/Gesher site, known as the historical crossing point of the Jordan River Valley. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: Water-Energy Nexus: aims at researching and advocating for a water and sustainable energy nexus approach to counter the effects of climate change and its potential negative security implications, while providing solutions to water scarcity in the region. The project includes researching the technical, economic, and geo-political pre-feasibility of Jordan as a provider of large-scale renewable energy for the Levant with the coastal region of Israel and Gaza producing the desalinated water.”
