Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The people concern believes no one should have to live on the street or in a violent household. Our staff, volunteers and those we serve work together to address the effects of homelessness, poverty, mental and physical illness, abuse and addiction. Our programs empower the most vulnerable among us to improve their quality of life - housed, healthy and safe - and become active participants in the community. We also work to educate the broader community and improve public policy.

To provide housing, social, and supportive services for homeless and low-income individuals.

Each year, the human resources department reviews the los angeles area annual wage and benefits survey for nonprofit organizations which provides extensive comparative data for employee salaries and benefits for all staff positions, including senior staff positions. Adjustments to compensation are made within the budget approved annually by the board of directors, independently, without the participation of interested persons. The board of directors approves compensation for the ceo. Form 990, part vi, section b, line 15b: the ceo reviews compensation for executive leadership staff.

IRS990/Desc0INTERIM HOUSING: OUR INTERIM HOUSING AND WELLNESS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO SHELTER, SUPPORT, AND PROVIDE A SENSE OF COMMUNITY TO TEMPORARILY HOUSED PARTICIPANTS WHO ARE TRANSITIONING FROM HOMELESSNESS INTO PERMANENT HOUSING. THE 9 INTERIM HOUSING FACILITIES (TOTALING 562 BEDS) PROVIDE BEDS, 3 MEALS PER DAY PLUS SNACKS, CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES, AND PERIODIC MEDICAL SERVICES TO CHRONICALLY HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS AND THOSE WHO OFTEN EXPERIENCE THE EFFECTS ASSOCIATED WITH SUBSTANCE ABUSE AS WELL AS MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES. HOUSING SERVICES: OPERATING UNDER A HOUSING FIRST MODEL, OUR STAFF WORK WITH PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS TO MOVE THEM INDOORS AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. WE WORK WITH NUMEROUS HOUSING DEVELOPMENT COMPANIES TO PROVIDE THE SERVICES TENANTS NEED TO HELP THEM STAY IN THEIR HOMES. IN FISCAL YEAR 22-23, THE TOTAL NUMBER OF INDIVIDUALS THAT MOVED INTO HOUSING WAS 1,691. WE CONTINUE TO PROVIDE ONGOING SERVICES TO 2,667 INDIVIDUALS THAT REMAIN IN HOUSING. PERMANENT HOUSING: THE PEOPLE CONCERN'S PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING PROGRAM PROVIDES REGULAR, ONGOING, INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT TO HELP OUR CLIENTS FIND LONG-TERM STABILITY, IMPROVE THEIR WELL-BEING, AND REMAIN HOUSED. IN THE 2022-23 FISCAL YEAR WE HAD A HOUSING RETENTION RATE OF 92%, MEANING 92% OF THE PEOPLE WE SUPPORT IN HOUSING WILL NEVER EXPERIENCE HOMELESSNESS AGAIN.
