The specific purposes for which the corporation is organized are as follows: (1) to offer dance, artistic, musical and other cultural and educational programs to inner-city community residents, with a particular emphasis on providing such instruction to middle school students at little or no cost; (2) to provide and maintain facilities for instruction and public performance of such art forms in inner-city neighborhoods; and (3) to use these same facilities as a catalyst for improving the surrounding neighborhoods, including offering daycare centers and other social services and, where appropriate, development of affordable, inner-city housing. -the bylaws election and term of office was amended to allow any director to take a leave of absence from active board service of one year renewable for a second and third year. - the bylaws resignation and removal of directors and removal of officers were amended for the removal of the condition that only gabriella charter schools board members appointed by gabriella foundation may remove a director of the gabriela charter school.”

“The gabriella foundation (foundation) is a public benefit corporation that was founded in memory of gabriella axelrad. The mission of the gabriella foundation is to transform the lives of underserved youth in los angeles through high quality dance instruction. The gabriella foundation's vision is to be nationally recognized as a model for transformative work in the artistic expression of dance and creative youth development, nurturing and sustaining communities where youth, regardless of economic or racial background, foster a lifelong appreciation of dance, are leaders engaging positively in their communities, serve as role models and mentors to new generations, and possess the self-discipline, confidence, and sheer drive to reach their full potential. The foundation accomplishes its mission through contributions and donations from community organizations and individuals. The gabriella foundation's program everybody dance! Opened its doors in may of 2000 at the townhouse, an affordable housing project located in inner-city los angeles, with twelve classes serving 35 first-time dancers. From the beginning, the goal was to provide high quality dance instruction at little or no cost to ethnically diverse, economically disadvantaged children. Over the years, the program has expanded exponentially as demand has increased. The program currently serves nearly 5,000 students annually with classes in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop and modern dance at 16 sites in the communities surrounding downtown los angeles. On average, students stay with the program for 7+ years and 30% study more than one dance form - the depth of learning they experience becoming a part of them as they transition into post-high school college and career pursuits. Everybody dance! Is anything but fleeting: - 93% of students surveyed say that everybody dance! Improves their physical fitness - 89% said their self-esteem improved - 91%, their self-efficacy - 90% their sense of being supported by friends and the community. Prior to july 1, 2013, the foundation operated a public charter elementary and middle school known as the gabriella charter school (the charter). Upon mutual agreement of the foundation and the charter, and approval from the los angeles unified school district, the two entities separated and all assets held by the foundation in connection with the operation of the school were transferred to the charter. The gabriella foundation and gabriella charter schools continue to enhance their partnership through strategic collaboration and cooperation.”
