Mission

Project angel food's mission is to improve health outcomes and end food insecurity for critically ill men, women, and children in los angeles by preparing and delivering medically tailored meals with compassion and hope. Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of united states internal revenue code (and similar provisions under california state law) and is not a private foundation. Generally accepted accounting principles prescribe a recognition threshold and measurement attribute for the consolidated financial statement recognition and measurement of a tax position taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. It requires that an organization recognize in the consolidated financial statements the impact of the tax position if that position will more likely than not be sustained on audit, based on the technical merits of the position. As of and for the year ended june 30, 2023, the organization had no unrecognized tax benefits, tax penalties, or interest. The organization is subject to potential income tax audits on open tax years by any taxing jurisdiction in which it operates. The statute of limitations for federal purposes is three years and for california is four years.

ADDITIONALLY, THROUGH THE HEALTHY START PROGRAM, THE ORGANIZATION DELIVERED 25,517 BREAKFASTS, PROVIDING CEREAL, FRUIT, YOGURT, MILK, AND OTHER NUTRITIOUS ITEMS TO CHILDREN LIVING WITH CRITICALLY ILL CLIENTS. STAFF DRIVERS DELIVER MEALS USING A FLEET OF REFRIGERATED VANS, COVERING 74 MAJOR ROUTES ACROSS LOS ANGELES COUNTY'S 4,751 SQUARE MILES. THESE ROUTES INCLUDE THE ANTELOPE VALLEY, EAST LOS ANGELES, METRO LOS ANGELES, THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, THE SAN GABRIEL VALLEY, SOUTH LOS ANGELES, SOUTH BAY/LONG BEACH, AND WEST LOS ANGELES. PROJECT ANGEL FOOD STANDS AS THE SOLE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION OFFERING FREE FOOD AND NUTRITION SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS OF ALL BACKGROUNDS AND DIAGNOSES THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE COUNTY.DURING FY 2024, THE ORGANIZATION ENTERED INTO A NEW MARKETS TAX CREDIT ARRANGEMENT TO EXPAND ITS FACILITIES. THE GRANT MADE TO FRIENDS OF PROJECT ANGEL FOOD WAS USED TO PROVIDE THE LEVERAGE LOAN FOR THE EXPANSION.
