The national structured settlements trade association (the "association") is a non-profit trade association incorporated in the state of california. The association's principle office is located in washington, dc. Membership is comprised of persons and firms actively involved in, associated with or having an interest in, the furtherance of periodic payment of compensation on account of personal injuries and other claims utilizing periodic payments. These provisions provide consistent guidance for the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an entity's financial statements and prescribe a threshold of "more likely than not" for recognition and de-recognition of tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. The association performed an evaluation of certain tax positions for the years ended june 30, 2017 and 2016, and determined that there were no material matters that would require recognition in the financial statements or that may have an effect on its tax-exempt status. As of june 30, 2017, the statute of limitations for tax years 2013 through 2015 remains open with the internal revenue service. It is the association's policy to recognize interest and/or penalties related to uncertain tax positions, if any, in income tax expense.”
