Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Su casa's mission is to empower individuals and families to live free from domestic abuse and build partnerships with communities to end domestic violence. The organization helps transform victims into survivors, helping them escape the bonds of abuse and establish healthy, independent lives. Their approach is compassionate, client-focused, and culturally sensitive, and designed to support survivors wherever they are in their healing process, empowering them to acquire safe and stable housing, job placement, and self-sufficiency.

To provide shelter, food and healing services for victims of domestic violence and their children. This is done through 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, transitional shelter, community outreach and education, and walk-in services. Our primary aim is to protect families from immediate danger stemming from domestic violence.

Financial Statement Notes

PART IV, LINE 2B:

Su casa holds monies in trust for clients of the transitional shelter which are turned over to the clients when they leave the shelter. The restricted cash relating to these monies as of june 30, 2018 and 2017 amounted to $12,294 and $8,179, respectively. A corresponding liability for this amount is included in accrued expenses and other current liabilities as of june 30, 2018 and 2017.

PART X, LINE 2:

Su casa is exempt from taxation under internal revenue code section 501(c)(3) and california revenue and taxation code section 23701(d). Accordingly, no provision for income taxes has been made in these financial statements. An organization is required to recognize in the financial statements the impact of the tax position if that position will more likely than not be sustained on audit, based on the technical merits of the position. Su casa has evaluated its tax positions and the certainty as to whether those positions will be sustained in the event of any audit by taxing authorities at the federal and state levels. The primary tax positions evaluated relate to su casa's continued qualification as a tax-exempt organization and whether there are unrelated business income activities that would be taxable. Management has determined that all income tax positions will more likely than not be sustained upon potential audit or examination; therefore, no disclosures of uncertain income tax positions are required. Su casa is subject to potential income tax audits on open tax years by any taxing jurisdiction in which it operates. The statute of limitations for federal purposes is three years and for california is four years.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1SU CASA IS EXEMPT FROM TAXATION UNDER INTERNAL REVENUE CODE SECTION 501(C)(3) AND CALIFORNIA REVENUE AND TAXATION CODE SECTION 23701(D).
