Form 990, Part 1, line 1:

The Alcott Center for Mental Health Services ("Alcott") is a community-based nonprofit organization that has provided mental health and supportive housing services to thousands of individuals facing mental health and related challenges since 1979. With program sites in West, East, and South Los Angeles, and 45 years of business experience, the agency provides a comprehensive range of services including: (a) outpatient mental health treatment to adults, 18+; (b) intensive case management services to individuals experiencing homelessness or individuals who have been diverted from incarceration; (c) Interim housing with 24/7 supervision & care to adult men and women diverted from incarceration who are also experiencing serious mental illness and housing instability; and (d) Unarmed crisis response which diverts nonviolent 911 calls to teams of trained mental health professionals to serve community members experiencing public mental health crises, homelessness, and more. In addition to clinical services, Alcott supports whole-person care by providing non-clinical experiences that develop individual strengths through well-being programs including art therapy groups, advocacy opportunities, self-help groups and social events. Alcott founded and serves as the lead entity for the Westside Health Neighborhood, retaining its longstanding roots in the Westside community. Expected outcomes for our clients and residents include an understanding of mental health, relapse factors, developing meaningful relationships, increased independence, setting and meeting personal goals, successful linkage to all health care, securing permanent housing, housing retention, and community education. Alcott is committed to reducing the impact and stigma of mental health challenges and homelessness. In 2024, Alcott served over 2,180 unique individuals across all programs, all who face mental health challenges, many with co-existing substance use disorders, many who are homeless at the time of program entry, and 98% who are living under the poverty line. The population served is: 39% female, 60% male, <1% transgender, <1% undisclosed, 34% Black, 22% Hispanic, 34% White, 2% Asian, 1% Native American, and 7% Other/Undisclosed. Our Primary Services: - Comprehensive outpatient mental health services including assessment, psychiatry, therapy, case management, psychoeducation, integrated dual-diagnosis services, linkage to interim/permanent housing, socialization opportunities and non-clinical art groups provided in office, in the field, and/or virtually. - Intensive case management services (ICMS) to adults experiencing homelessness, and in some instances their families, referred by the Los Angeles County Coordinated Entry System (CES) and/or who have been diverted from incarceration via the office of diversion & reentry (ODR). Services include wraparound support and linkage to mental health services, benefit establishment, assistance with court requirements, and placement in permanent housing solutions. - Enhanced Care Management (ECM) services delivered to those individuals impacted by multiple health challenges with complex cases. Services include healthcare system navigation and support. - Interim Housing for up to two years for adult (18+) men & women recently diverted from incarceration who are experiencing serious mental health and related challenges. Services including on-site 24/7 trauma-informed support and supervision, psychiatry, mental health and substance use services, nursing and medication management, case management, securing permanent housing, peer support, reentry services, life-skills classes, and socialization activities. - Unarmed Crisis Response for community members experiencing public mental health crises, homelessness, or other related challenges. Alcott is exempt from taxation under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) and California Revenue and Taxation Code Section 23701d. Generally accepted accounting principles provide accounting and disclosure guidance about positions taken by an organization in its tax returns that might be uncertain. Management has considered its tax positions and believes that all of the positions taken by Alcott in their federal and state exempt organization tax returns are more likely than not to be sustained upon examination. Alcott's returns are subject to examination by federal and state taxing authorities, generally for three and four years, respectively, after they are filed.

In partnership with the City of Los Angeles, this Unarmed Model of Crisis Response (UMCR) program diverts nonviolent 911 calls in the Wilshire area to Alcott's teams of trained mental health professionals. Since March 2024, Alcott's teams have diverted/responded to 1,950 nonviolent 911 calls.
