“The long beach firemen's credit union has members made up of fire department employees (current or retired) and their families and credit union employees and their families. They are the only people who can use the services of the credit union.”

“The credit union is made up of members who vote annually to elect positions on the board of directors. Each year there are at least two board of directors' positions up for reelection.”

“There is a supervisory committee who has the authority under california state credit union law to remove board of directors for not following credit union law. Also the supervisory committee hires an independent audit on an annual basis. General membership meetings occur every january. Any major changes in the credit union business model must be voted on at a general membership meeting and must be approved by the california department of business oversight (credit union division).”

“A copy of form 990 was sent to each board member via email. Board members reviewed and approved the documents. The approval will be included in the april board minutes. In addition, the board of directors review and monitor the credit union's financial records so they have an understanding of the financial condition of the credit union.”

“The credit union has checks and balances built into the organization. Our independent auditing firm and the department of financial institution examiners interview a range of people within the organization, review contracts, monitor loans, etc.”

The process is that the request is directed to the cfo, robert moll, or the ceo, sandra crane, or the office manager, victoria ochoa. Each of us can find and provide the public documents requested. Also there are documents from our credit union available online at the national credit union association website (www.ncua.gov).”
