Mission

When adults have a second chance and are able to make a successful transition to employment and have ongoing access to further education to increase their economic opportunities, they improve not only their own lives but those of their families and communities, for generations to come.

We provide a food prep & baking job training & placement program. The program is 8 weeks, 240 hours, and free for youth and adults over 18 in the san francisco bay area. You will learn commercial food preparation and baking along with the job readiness skills essential to meaningful employment.

ALL PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS WERE LOW-INCOME, WITH 73% BEING UNEMPLOYED WHEN ENTERING THE PROGRAM AND RECEIVING SOME FORM OF PUBLIC BENEFITS. THE GRADUATES FACED MANY BARRIERS TO EMPLOYMENT: LACK OF PERMANENT HOUSING (48%), MINIMAL EDUCATION (36% HAVE HS/GED DIPLOMA ONLY), ENGLISH IS A SECOND LANGUAGE (25%), PRIOR INCARCERATION (24%), VARIOUS DISABILITIES (37%), AND IMMIGRANTS OR REFUGEES (20%). DEMOGRAPHICS: FEMALE (57%) OF WHOM 37% ARE HEADS OF HOUSEHOLD, AFRICAN/AFRICAN AMERICAN (44%), ASIAN/PACIFIC ISLANDER (11%), HISPANIC/LATINO (11%), MULTIRACIAL (11%), CAUCASIAN/WHITE (9%), OTHER/UNKNOWN (14%), 19% ARE 18 TO 24, 43% ARE 25 TO 45, FROM ALAMEDA COUNTY (87%), CONTRA COSTA COUNTY (11%), AND SOLANO COUNTRY (3%) **FY20: 5 BOOTCAMPS WERE COMPLETED AS OF 3/06/2020 BEFORE THE ONSET OF THE COVID PANDEMIC ANDSHELTERING IN PLACE ORDERS. THE REMAINING 4 MONTHS IN FY20 WERE DEVOTED TO CARING FOR OUR GRADUATES,MANY OF WHOM LOST THEIR JOBS WITH THE SHUTDOWN OF THE RESTAURANT INDUSTRY; INFORMATION ON THIS ISINCLUDED LATER IN THIS REPORT.BY HELPING VULNERABLE ADULTS GAIN ESSENTIAL SKILLS, JOB READINESS, AND EMPLOYMENT, OUR MEASURABLE OUTCOMES HAVE BEEN RATHER CONSISTENT OVER THE PAST 20 YEARS IN IMPROVING THE HEALTH OF THOSE WE HAVE SERVED AND THEIR EXTENDED FAMILIES. WE HAVE GRADUATED NEARLY 2,000 ADULTS WITH A 82% GRADUATION RATE, 73% EMPLOYMENT RATE, AND AN 80-85% JOB RETENTION RATE.
