Public policy recommendations development: good beginnings alliance promotes policies which will increase resources for young children in hawaii. Gba coordinates resources with other hawaii organizations to promote the availability, accessibility and quality of early childhood education. Gba aligns public support (departmental, legislative, and administrative) by supporting policy makers to make informed decisions with data and research and by securing new public and private investment to address community concerns around accessing high-quality early education opportunities and expanding necessary health and family support services. Achievements: 1. Increased outreach to ece community on key legislative bills impacting young children; 2. Published issue brief on cuts to hawaii's ece system and school readiness impact educating public, legislature, policy makers, and governor candidates about negative cuts. 3. Worked closely with department of human services' subcommittee to amend rules for child care 4. Partnered with department of education on sixth annual hawaii state school readiness assessment showing more of hawaii's young children not ready for school; 5. Conducted trainings in p-3 communities on the hssra calculating tool; 6. Drafted state advisory council application to the national head start office resulting in $664,277 in federal funding to support early childhood system building; 7. Provided input to state's successful race to the top application so that early childhood would be included; 8. Informed state legislators as to importance of junior kindergarten funding and successful advocated for extended time to develop long-term plan.awareness and public will building: gba develops messages and produces materials for different audiences to make a compelling case for investing resources in hawaii's young children. Gba utilizes strategic communications to engage a broad coalition of stakeholders in increasing investments in quality early childhood education and care (ece.) we utilize an interactive website, social networking sites (facebook, twitter, etc.), parent blogs, and community engagement events to reach the public. We coordinate with other early childhood advocates so that a multitude of community voices are heard by policy makers.achievements: 1. Launched broad public will campaign beginning with decision-maker presentations by sergio bendixen from florida and dr. Jack shonkoff of harvard; 2. Created a statewide alliance of early childhood (ec) advocates called one voice for hawaii's children; 3. Reached out to gubernatorial candidates as to need for state funded comprehensive early childhood system. 4. Started to build grassroots support for ec prioritization to create overwhelming pubic support for a funded, operational, quality p-3 system.
