Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Global Healing works across a number of medical specialties, including cardiac surgery, pediatrics and blood safety, coordinating programs around the world. Global Healing works to address the disparity in access to healthcare between the developed and developing world. We have created a model that co-opts support from all sectors and focuses on local capacity building, not temporary interventions with temporary effect.

Global Healing promotes health care reform in areas of the world where modern medical health care is not available. Global Healing aims for sustainable development of healthcare services, rather than short-term or emergency interventions.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

Form 990 is prepared by an outside tax professional. The form is then reviewed by the organization's management, which includes a member of the board of directors and the president. The final version of the tax return is provided to all members of the organization's voting body. A representative of management authorizes the final form 990 which is then e-filed with the Internal Revenue Service.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Members of the Board of Directors periodically review all potential conflicts of interest. All personnel and board members are required to disclose potential conflicts and any related party affiliations. The organization seeks full transparency on all relationships. Any potential conflicts in fact or appearance are discussed openly and resolved in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

Members of the Board of Directors review the compensation of top management personnel periodically in accordance with IRS rules and regulations. Efforts are made to secure compensation data from industry sources in order to determine competitiveness and appropriateness of salaries. The organization does not have any top management members with a salary in excess of $150,000. Every effort is made to ensure that the process is thorough and transparent in accordance with IRS guidelines and the organization's policies and procedures.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15B

Compensation of other high level personnel is reviewed periodically by members of management. Efforts are made to secure compensation data from industry sources in order to determine competitiveness and appropriateness of salaries and all related benefits.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

All of the organization's governing documents, financial statements and other legal filings are maintained in a secure environment and held available for inspection by tax authorities and the general public. Tax returns are posted annually to www.guidestar.org where they are available for viewing as electronic copies. All the organization's governance documents are available via website: http://globalhealing.org/financials. All tax returns are also available by request from the organization's office.

IRS990/Desc0Georgia: Jo Ann Medical Center has officially partnered with the European University of Georgia and has been renamed Jo Ann University Hospital JAUH, the first University-associated hospital in Georgia. The University is an excellent partner, as both share a similar vision in improving medical outcomes in Georgia through quality medical education. Sharing resources with the University, JAUH can now grow much faster. In October 2024, Global Healing's USAID/ASHA grant concluded for the development of a new pediatric oncology center at JAUH in Tbilisi, Georgia. The JAUH has become a University Hospital in partnership with the European University of Georgia, and remains a center of excellence in pediatric cardiac surgery throughout the broader Caucasus region.

IRS990ScheduleF/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0Once grants are approved, recipient organizations must sign a letter of agreement stating the terms of the grant and reporting schedule. A budget is prepared in advance of all international work. Local organizations working in designated foreign countries provide ongoing reports regarding work progress. Financial and Narrative Reports are required at least once at the end of the project period. Expenditures are made against budget amounts and analyzed continuously by US-based management. Discussions, emails, and other communication techniques ensure that the funds are utilized according to the original intent. Accomplishments are documented in writing and submitted to the head office in Berkeley.
