Nicos Chinese Health Coalition

“Nicos has the following three categories of membership: (1) health organizations or agencies, which are experienced in the provision of direct services to the chinese community. (2) non-health organizations or agencies, which are knowledgeable in the provision of human services or other related services, and are necessary to ensure quality health services to the chinese community. (3) organizations or agencies, which are interested in the public policies, administration or provision of health services; individuals who have expertise in areas of health services, fiscal management, business, public policies, administration or provision of health services.”

“The board members who are also coalition members have the power to elect members of the governing body.”

“Changes to bylaws must be approved by members.”

“A draft of the tax return was e-mailed to board members for review and comment before filing.”

“Directors are asked to review the conflict of interest policy, make any disclosures of possible conflicts, and submit signed statements annually. The executive director brings any possible conflicts to the board for review.”

“The board of directors conducts an annual performance evaluation of the executive director, then discusses possible merit and/or equity increases based on the evaluation and a review of current-year compensation surveys produced by the center for nonprofit management. Executive director conducts a performance evaluation of key staff, then determines possible merit and/or equity increases based on evaluation and prevailing market compensation rates for similar positions.”

“The governing documents, policies and financial statements are kept in the administrative office and are available upon request.”

“The process for overseeing the audit and selecting the independent accountant has not changed.”
