| Yerba Buena Neighborhood MeetingsThe Yerba Buena Alliance produced 12 Yerba Buena neighborhood meetings in 2019. Neighborhood meetings are held from 8:45 to 10:00 am and are to engage and inform the diverse stakeholders of the neighborhood. Typically we feature 3 to 4 guest speakers on an array of topics from local developments, major transportation and infrastructure projects by the SFMTA and impacts, majority planning area studies by the Planning Department, neighborhood events and other information to update the stakeholders. The Alliance averages about 40 people at each neighborhood meeting who are a diverse cross mix of locals from the convention center, hotels, restaurants, retail and residential with a mix of arts and cultural institutions. The Alliance continues to find ways to engage local stakeholders who are plugged in and intune with the resources and networking of Alliance neighborhood meetings and also outreach and engage with new and potential members who can benefit from attending neighborhood meetings. 1. | Yerba Buena 3rd ThursdaysThe Yerba Buena Alliance partners with 5 major cultural institutions in the neighborhood to promote the area as a destination on a monthly basis for Yerba Buena 3rd Thursday. Held on the 3rd Thursday of each month, participating institutions offer special programming. From May to October, it features a life salsa band from the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival for the Lets Go Salsa feature. Other participating institutions that open for free from 5-8 pm or discounted entry include the California Historical Society, Museum of the African Diaspora, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and The Contemporary Jewish Museum. In addition to the museum and cultural partners, we also have restaurant partners in B Bar, Novela and Thirsty Bear. This program has been working well with MoAD offering open mic night for poetry, special symposiums at the California Historical society and contemporary art at YBCA. The Alliance rebranded 3rd Thursdays with a new website www.yb3tsf.org with a new social media channel for that effort with a rebranded Facebook and Instagram page to engage users. Culture for CommunityMarch and September 2019An exciting development happened in 2019 with the neighborhoods most prestigious institution the SFMOMA joining the Yerba Buena Alliances program on the 3rd Thursday and opening for free. This free day happened twice in 2019 in March celebrating Womens History Month and September 2019 celebrating intergenerational connections. The SFMOMA reported over 11,000 unique visitors in March making the Culture for Community one of their best attended days ever. Because of SFMOMA joining, we had an expanded partnership with over 13 cultural institutions. Annual Community CelebrationThe Yerba Buena Alliance celebrated on Tuesday, November 12th from 5-8pm at the Metreon Cityview with over 220 stakeholders from the neighborhood to celebrate the honorees. The Alliance honored Webcor Builders with the Organizational Champion Award, Michelle Delaney of 111 MInna Gallery with the Unsung Hero Award and the South of Market Child Care Center or SOMACC with the Guardian of the Gardens Award. We had 10 restaurant donors and an awards program with videos produced by the Alliance that tell the stories of of the honorees. Board of DirectorsThe Alliance board met every other month and was able to engage two new members. Community EngagementThe Yerba Buena Alliance engaged with the local stakeholders in the following ways: - Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy, we celebrated a 7 year process to get this new non profit organization up and running successfully with support from the stakeholders. -Board member for South of Market Child Care Center SOMACC -Yerba Buena Culture Cabinet -Representative on the Better Market Street Plan Community Advisory Board -Yerba Buena Consortium, a residential neighborhood group run by TODCO -Support offered for One Vassar, a major mixed use project at 2nd and HarrisonThe Yerba Buena Alliance continues to be committed to the Yerba Buena community and engage with our diverse community in different ways. The Alliance continues to thrive as a membership organization in a landscape of many competing interests in the neighborhood. Community EngagementThe Yerba Buena Alliance engaged with the local stakeholders in the following ways: - Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy, we celebrated a 7 year process to get this new non profit organization up and running successfully with support from the stakeholders. -Board member for South of Market Child Care Center SOMACC -Yerba Buena Culture Cabinet -Representative on the Better Market Street Plan Community Advisory Board -Yerba Buena Consortium, a residential neighborhood group run by TODCO -Support offered for One Vassar, a major mixed use project at 2nd and HarrisonThe Yerba Buena Alliance continues to be committed to the Yerba Buena community and engage with our diverse community in different ways. The Alliance continues to thrive as a membership organization in a landscape of many competing interests in the neighborhood. This unique neighborhood organization pulls together the stakeholders and creates a sense of community. |
