Mission and Program Overview

Mission

At the greentrike, our mission is to honor children and champion play. Everything we do begins with our image of the child. We believe children are compassionate, capable, inquisitive, creative, valuable, contributing and dreamers.

Since 1985, greentrike has carried out its mission to "honor children & youth, & champion play"by nurturing children and supporting the adults who care for them through play. We do this at two children's museums, as well as through pierce county-wide school-readiness programs, after school learning opportunities for school-age children, satellite enrichment preschool, outreach family steam nights, programming for children experiencing special needs, and more.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

A draft of the 990 is provided to all board members, who are given the opportunity to review the document. The final approval of the 990 prior to filing is completed by the finance committee, executive director and finance manager.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Each member of the board or any committee thereof, shall have the responsibility to identify the existence of a conflict of interest with respect to any matter before the board or committee for consideration. After such identification, the member shall disclose the conflict to the other members of the board or committee and may then enter into a discussion of the matter under consideration, but shall not vote on it. If a member is in doubt as to whether a conflict of interest exists, such member shall resolve the uncertainty in favor of the existence of a conflict.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

All hourly wages and annual salaries for staff are determined at the discretion of the executive director. Considerations to this process include: (a) industry research; (b) economic trends; (c) tenure with the organization; (d) job performance and classifications; (e) employee duties and qualifications. The board of directors determines the salary of the executive director based on multiple criteria, including the factors listed above. The process described here was last completed in 2020.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization's governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements are made available to the public as requests are made.

Rebecca smith ozias endowment fund will benefit the area or areas of greatest need at the museum as determined by its board of directors. The internal revenue service has recognized the organization as exempt from federal income taxes under provisions of section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code (irc) except to the extent of unrelated business taxable income as defined under irc sections 511 through 515. Any unrelated business income generated is not significant; therefore, no provision for income taxes has been recorded. The organization follows fasb asc 740-10, income taxes, relating to accounting for uncertain tax positions. Asc 740-10 prescribes a recognition threshold and measurement process for accounting for uncertain tax positions and also provides guidance on various related matters such as derecognition, interest, penalties and disclosures required. Management does not believe the organization has an uncertain tax position as of and for the years ended december 31, 2023 and 2022.

PART III, LINE 4:

The exhibition consists of metal horse and cow sculptures that are displayed in an outside play area. The sculptures help inspire the imagination of children during their outdoor playtime.
