The board retains the services of an independent cpa firm to prepare the organization's form 990. The finance committee subsequently reviews the form 990 and approves it for submission to the irs. Copies of the form 990 and all related schedules are provided to the board of directors before it is filed.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Persons covered under the conflict of interest policy include all members of the board of directors and the executive director staff members, other than the executive director, are not permitted to enter into a contractual agreement on behalf of the organization. The individuals covered under the policy disclose potential conflicts when the conflict, or the possible appearance of a conflict, arises. The board or appointed committee reviews any potential conflict and the individual involved is not permitted to remain in the room for the final deliberation and vote. The policy further outlines documentation of the proceedings, procedures if a conflict is determined to exist, and periodic reviews of the policy.

Additional Explanations

Effective january 1, 2018, the three local entities, ronald mcdonald house at stanford, ronald mcdonald house of san francisco, inc., and ronald mcdonald house charites of the bay area, inc. Merged into one organization to better support families with children receiving essential pediatric care at partner hospitals. The combined entity will be known as ronald mcdonald house charities bay area ("rmhc bay area") and operate under the ronald mcdonald house at stanford tax indentification. All the assets, liabilities, investments and restrictions on funds were transferred at cost to the merged entity. Ronald mcdonald house at stanford amended its articles to change the organization's name to ronald mcdonald house charities - bay area.

Donation is restricted to withdrawals. The principal is to remain intact in perpetuity, earnings on principal are used for operations.

PART X, LINE 2:

The house has been granted tax-exempt status under sections 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and 23701(d) of the california revenue and taxation code. In addition, the house has been determined by the internal revenue service not to be a private foundation within the meaning of section 509(a) of the internal revenue code. However, the house is subject to taxes on income, if any, that is unrelated to its exempt purpose. The house evaluated its current tax positions and has concluded that as of december 31, 2017, the house does not have any significant uncertain tax positions for which a reserve would be necessary.
