THE CHOICE PANTRY SERVES INDIVIDUALS AND HOUSEHOLDS LIVING IN THE GREATER EUREKA AREA USING THE CHOICE STYLE OF FOOD DISTRIBUTION WHICH INVITES PEOPLE TO SELECT THE FOODS THEY WANT AND THAT FIT THEIR DIETARY OR CULTURAL NEEDS. THE MOBILE PRODUCE PANTRY TAKES A REFRIGERATED TRUCK FULL OF FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES TO SPECIFIC LOCATIONS ACROSS HUMBOLDT COUNTY FOR DISTRIBUTION ON A MONTHLY SCHEDULE. THE FREE PRODUCE MARKETS PROVIDE SEASONAL FREE FARMERS MARKET-STYLE PRODUCE DISTRIBUTIONS FOR LOW- INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES. THE NONPROFIT NETWORK ALLOWS LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS SERVING LOW-INCOME CHILDREN AND/OR ADULTS TO ACCESS DONATED FOODS AT A LOW, PER POUND COST ESTABLISHED BY FEEDING AMERICA. THE EMERGENCY AND COMMUNITY FOOD RESPONSE PROGRAM WORKS WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS THROUGHOUT HUMBOLDT COUNTY TO MAKE FOOD AVAILABLE TO HOUSEHOLDS EXPERIENCING HARDSHIPS DUE TO NATURAL DISASTERS INCLUDING WILDFIRES, EARTHQUAKES, WINTER STORMS AND MORE. OVERHEAD AND LABOR ASSOCIATED WITH RECEIVING, TRANSPORTATION, AND LOGISTICS OF THE DISTRIBUTION PROGRAMS; INCLUDING TRACKING COSTS FOR FOOD DONATED AT COMMODITY PRICES IS DONE BY THE ORGANIZATIONS WAREHOUSE.

ALL BOXES COME WITH THE ADDITION OF BREAD AND UP TO 10 LBS OF FRESH PRODUCE. THE SENIOR BROWN BAG PROGRAM HAS BEEN OPERATING SINCE 1987 AND PROVIDES A MONTHLY BAG OF GROCERIES FOR LOW INCOME SENIOR HOUSEHOLDS AT 16 SITES COUNTYWIDE. DRIVE-THROUGH DISTRIBUTIONS ARE OFFERED AT SITES THAT CAN ACCOMMODATE THE VEHICLE TRAFFIC. VOLUNTEER DRIVERS DELIVER TO THOSE WHO ARE UNABLE TO PICK UP THE FOOD ON THEIR OWN. THE HOMEBOUND DELIVERY PROGRAM PROVIDES A MONTHLY BAG OF GROCERIES FOR ADULTS UNDER AGE 60 WHO ARE TOO ILL OR DISABLED TO LEAVE THEIR HOMES. REFERRALS ARE ACCEPTED FROM HOSPITALS, MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS, SOCIAL WORKERS, ETC. THE BACKPACKS FOR KIDS PROGRAM PROVIDES A BAG OF KID-FRIENDLY FOOD EVERY FRIDAY DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE CONSIDERED AT RISK FOR HUNGER OVER THE WEEKEND. THE KIDS SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM OFFERS WEEKLY FOOD BOXES AT SIX SITES IN HOOPA, WILLOW CREEK, MANILA, LOLETA, BRIDGEVILLE AND REDWAY WHICH ARE CONSIDERED MORE REMOTE AND RURAL AREAS WHERE RESOURCES ARE LESS AVAILABLE. THE NONPERISHABLE FOODS ARE ACCOMPANIED BY FRESH PRODUCE FROM LOCAL FARMS THANKS TO OUR LOCALLY DELICIOUS FARMER FUND.

THE ADVOCACY PROGRAM WORKS WITH PARTNERS THROUGHOUT THE STATE TO IDENTIFY POLICIES, PROGRAMS AND LEGISLATION THAT REDUCE HUNGER AND POVERTY AT THE LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL LEVELS. THE LOCAL FOOD RESOURCES PROGRAM IDENTIFIES AND DIVERTS LOCAL FOODS TO THE FOOD BANK FOR DISTRIBUTION.
