| IRS990/Desc | 0 | Create CA is pleased to present a report on our major program accomplishments and highlights. During fiscal year 2021, Create CA (Create), now merged with the California Alliance for Arts Education (Alliance), made significant strides toward increasing equitable access to quality arts education for all PK-12 students in California. Create's Arts Now Communities program supported 39 local coalitions of arts education advocates and over 550 advocates attended the annual Arts Now Leadership Institute. We also convened 40 partner organizations through our statewide Policy Council to mobilize their networks in support of arts education and educational equity. During fiscal year 2021, the former Alliance and Create CA explored and approved a strategic merger. The Alliance had been Create CA's long-time partner and fiscal sponsor. On July 1, 2021, we merged and now formally operate under the Create CA name and brand. Both organizations shared goals and values, organizational DNA, and respect among stakeholders and a merger was mutually beneficial for several reasons. First, pooled resources, aligned work and speaking with one clear voice makes the merged organization more viable, effective, and strategic. Secondly, combining Create CA's Arts Education Data Project and Public Will Campaign with the Alliance's policy and advocacy work amplifies our collective impact. Finally, state and local policy issues are better prioritized when roles and systems are clarified through one merged governance structure. The merger allows us to deepen the impact of our work towards advancing systems change in the field of arts education. Arts Now CommunitiesOver the last year, Create CA hosted 19 virtual advocacy trainings and professional learning opportunities. A total of 855 individuals attended these free events and received tools and resources from Create. Below is a summary that includes highlights from several of the events we hosted: Create CA worked with P.S. ARTS and researcher Dr. Rekha Rajan to disseminate findings from a two-year study examining the relationship between social emotional learning and participation in inclusive arts programs among students with disabilities and without disabilities. We hosted a Special Education and the Arts webinar on February 10, 2021, which presented case studies from the research study and discussed how special education programs have responded to the challenges and opportunities presented by distance learning during COVID-19.In collaboration with Arts for LA, Create CA hosted "Advocating for Student Health & the Arts: Getting the Arts into Your District's LCAP" on March 17, 2021. This webinar provided a brief overview of the Local Control & Accountability Plan (LCAP) process and document, presented the compelling argument for including the arts in the LCAP as a key strategy to support student health and shared the experience of a district administrator who successfully worked to include arts education in the LCAP to support social emotional learning. On May 5, 2021, Create CA hosted an interactive webinar that (re)contextualized the lived experience of many Indigenous students in the North-West Region of California public schools today. The webinar centered the voices of Hupa, Karuk and Yurok Indigenous artists and educators working to understand and meet the needs of students by employing culturally sensitive, trauma-informed and arts-based practices. Participants engaged in personal reflection and group discussion designed to advance their skills as an ally to and advocate for Indigenous students.
