Bringing reading to lives - the stanislaus literacy center, a non-profit corporation in partnership with the community business, education and government - teaches adults and their families basic education skills - helps parents become their child's first and best teacher and prepares a more productive workforce.

OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Transition Services -Upon enrollment, all LearningQuest students choose college or career as a goal for after graduating. Transition Specialists ensure they stay motivated to achieve that goal through workshops, one-on-one training support completing applications for jobs, financial aid, college and more. HSE graduates have lifetime access to Transition Services. 628 students were served with transitional services. We provided 193 college enrollment sessions for students desiring to attend college after graduating from our HSE program. 712 resumes were created to enhance job-seeking opportunities. 432 job applications completed by students. 74 Students obtained employment. 8 Computer literacy workshops were conducted to enhance digital skills. 16 financial literacy workshops. 6 life coaching workshops.KidsQuest -Children diagnosed with dyslexia or other language disorders receive one-on-one tutoring by volunteers specializing in effective structured word inquiry methods. Children diagnosed with dyslexia or other language disorders receive one-on one tutoring from volunteers specializing in effective structured word inquiry methods. Currently serving 29 students, with 93% making satisfactory or above progress. Recruited 21 new tutors, bringing the total to 26 active tutors. Since October 2023, volunteers have provided 1,748 hours of tutoring. Completed 23 one-on-one tutor training sessions, with 2 additional trainings scheduled for multiple tutors. Conducted 35 student screenings using the Barton Reading and Spelling screening. One student has graduated from the Batton Spelling and Reading system, now reading at grade level as they start high school this year. Provided a parent academy teaching parents/tutors how to instruct on the 100 most common sight words. Partnered with Barnes & Noble to host a Student Recognition Ceremony for all students enrolled in KidsQuest, raising nearly $2,000. Conducted 6 days of WIAT-4 Dyslexia Index Assessments, assessing 20 students and 4 adults. Added and contracted 2 new assessors for the WIAT-4 assessments.

Part X : FIN48 Footnote

The Center is exempt from Federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and California income taxes under section 23701(d) of the California Revenue and Taxation Code. The IRS classified the Center as one that is not a private foundation within the meaning of section 509(a) of the Code because it is an Center described in section(s) 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi).The Center has adopted Financial Accounting Standards Board Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) Section 740-10, which clarifies the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes. ASC Section 740-10 prescribes a recognition threshold and measurement attribute for the financial statement recognition and measurement of a tax position taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. ASC Section 740-10 requires that an Center recognize in the financial statements the impact of the tax position if that position will more likely than not be sustained on audit, based on the technical merits of the position. As of and for the year ended June 30, 2024, the Center had no material unrecognized tax benefits, tax penalties or interest.The Center's Forms 990, Return of Center Exempt from Income Tax, for each of the tax years ended June 30; 2023, 2022, and 2021, are subject to examination by the IRS, generally for 3 years after they were filed.The Center's Forms 199, California Exempt Center Return, for each of the tax years ended June 30; 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2020, are subject to examination by the Franchise Tax Board, generally for 4 years after they were filed.

Our program covers all five subjects of the state HiSET exams, helping students earn their HSE diplomas upon successful completion. Classes are available in both English and Spanish, offered at various locations with a hybrid option. In-person instruction is also provided at the county jail. Graduates are honored during Winter and Summer graduation ceremonies each year. 573 students were served by om team of HSE instructors. 131 of those served were enrolled in Spanish HSE. 216 of those served were enrolled in the jail program. 148 students graduated with a high school equivalency diploma and moved onto either college or career goals. 15% increase in number of graduates from the previous year. We provided 624 class sessions for the year. 1,537 official HiSET exams were scheduled during the year.Previous Goals Met: An increase in partnership collaboration brought in life-coaching, financial and computer literacy, and career coaching to HSE students. Incorporated college planning services into our correctional re-entry program.

The IRS classified the Center as one that is not a private foundation within the meaning of section 509(a) of the Code because it is an Center described in section(s) 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi).The Center has adopted Financial Accounting Standards Board Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) Section 740-10, which clarifies the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes. ASC Section 740-10 prescribes a recognition threshold and measurement attribute for the financial statement recognition and measurement of a tax position taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. ASC Section 740-10 requires that an Center recognize in the financial statements the impact of the tax position if that position will more likely than not be sustained on audit, based on the technical merits of the position. IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Transition Services -Upon enrollment, all LearningQuest students choose college or career as a goal for after graduating. Transition Specialists ensure they stay motivated to achieve that goal through workshops, one-on-one training support completing applications for jobs, financial aid, college and more. HSE graduates have lifetime access to Transition Services. 628 students were served with transitional services. We provided 193 college enrollment sessions for students desiring to attend college after graduating from our HSE program. 712 resumes were created to enhance job-seeking opportunities. 432 job applications completed by students. 74 Students obtained employment. 8 Computer literacy workshops were conducted to enhance digital skills. 16 financial literacy workshops. 6 life coaching workshops.KidsQuest -Children diagnosed with dyslexia or other language disorders receive one-on-one tutoring by volunteers specializing in effective structured word inquiry methods. Currently serving 29 students, with 93% making satisfactory or above progress. Recruited 21 new tutors, bringing the total to 26 active tutors. Since October 2023, volunteers have provided 1,748 hours of tutoring. Completed 23 one-on-one tutor training sessions, with 2 additional trainings scheduled for multiple tutors. Conducted 35 student screenings using the Barton Reading and Spelling screening. One student has graduated from the Batton Spelling and Reading system, now reading at grade level as they start high school this year. Provided a parent academy teaching parents/tutors how to instruct on the 100 most common sight words. Partnered with Barnes & Noble to host a Student Recognition Ceremony for all students enrolled in KidsQuest, raising nearly $2,000. Conducted 6 days of WIAT-4 Dyslexia Index Assessments, assessing 20 students and 4 adults. Added and contracted 2 new assessors for the WIAT-4 assessments.
