Activity 3
Second harvest services:* food connection - tri-lingual referral hotline links people needing food with local assistance programs. In the past year, food connection provided 41,950 referrals.* community nutrition - offers training opportunities and technical assistance to partner agencies and program participants on how to make healthier food choices, nutrition, food safety, and food handling practices.* food stamp outreach - is an important part of the safety net, providing supplemental food to those who qualify. Food stamps is an important government program that is the number one source of food assistance in santa clara and san mateo counties, yet nearly $139 million in benefits remain unutilized annually due to low participation rates.
