Additional Explanations

FORM 990, PART XI, LINE 2C:

There have been no changes to the process for oversight of the audit of the finanical statements and selection of an independent accountant.

Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 4:

The foundation maintains a small collection of art consisting of sculpture, paintings, and prints at a cost of $159,598. After considering depreciation, the net book value of this collection is $137,698. This furthers our exempt purpose by enriching, educating, and entertaining our community through accessible and outstanding presentation of visual art.

PART V, LINE 4:

The donors of this endowment have stipulated that the funds are to be invested in perpetuity. There is no restriction on the net appreciation of the endowment.

PART X, LINE 2:

Explanation for uncertain tax positions under fin 48 the foundation is a not-for-profit organization and is exempt from federal and state income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and california revenue and taxation code section 23701(d). However, the foundation is subject to income taxes on any net income that is derived from a trade or business, regularly carried on, and not in furtherance of the purposes for which it was granted exemption, commonly referred to as unrelated business income. No income tax provision has been recorded for the years ended june 30, 2015 and 2014, since management determined that the foundation had no unrelated business income. The foundation determines whether its tax positions are "more-likely-than-not" to be sustained upon examination by the applicable taxing authority based on the technical merits of the positions. As of june 30, 2015, the foundation has reviewed its tax positions and has concluded no reserve for uncertain tax positions is required. The foundation's open tax years subject to review are 2011-2014 for state and 2012-2014 for federal.
