It is the mission of iola's lyceum to empower, challenge oppression, and promote an equitable and free society by fostering a community invested in the values of communal mindfulness, intellectual curiosity, and justice. Iola's lyceum seeks to foster literacy, community building, activism and culture by bringing writers, artists and other creatives in a space with community to discuss their work, to support creation and to strategize around policies impacting vulnerable populations. Iola's lyceum will use culture and creativity as a driver of more just communities by supporting literacy, knowledge and community collaboration by creating public programming such as talks, author readings and writing and other workshops to serve and engage everyone in the community. Iola's lyceum will intentionally draw writers, creatives, scholars and activists together to curate communal experiences in the hopes of furthering collaboration and mutual understanding.

“The board of directors recognizes that the irs form 990 serves not only as the organization's annual information return to the internal revenue service, but also as a key public disclosure document that communicates the nonprofit's mission, programs, governance, and financial stewardship to donors, funders, and the public. To ensure accuracy, transparency, and compliance, the following review process has been implemented by iola's lyceum's board: 1. The treasurer, or designee, and the organization's accountant or auditor will prepare a draft of the irs form 990 at the end of the organization's year. 2. The draft will be reviewed by management for completeness relative to program descriptions, required disclosures, and financial data. 3. The secretary will receive the draft form 990 prior to sharing with the full board for review. This review will include confirmation of accuracy and consistency with financial statements, completeness of schedules and disclosures, accuracy of narratives relative to governance, policies, and programming, and the accurate reflection of the organization's mission and activities. 4. A complete form 990 will then be provided to the board members ahead of a meeting where the filing of the form 990 will be approved. At this meeting board members will have the opportunity to make any necessary corrections, deletions, or corrections after asking questions. If no edits are necessary, the form 990 will be filed. Where edits are necessary, the treasurer will manage the implementation of the edits and turn them around within 1 week to present again to the board. 5. Upon approval, the treasurer will authorize for the filing of the form 990 within the statutory deadline.”
“Iola's lyceum's conflict of interest policy calls for an annual disclosure by members of the board. Upon initial election to the board or becoming an officer/covered person, a disclosure is required. Relative to transactions that may occur outside of the annual disclosure period, covered persons are required to disclose any relationships and/or potential conflicts at the time that said transaction is being considered. Annual disclosures are recorded by the secretary and kept on file. Any potential or actual conflicts that are revealed are considered by the full board, with the covered person recused from consideration, to determine if it is a material conflict. Where matters require a vote, directors with a potential conflict are required to disclose same and recuse from deliberations and voting. Identified conflicts are recorded in official meeting minutes.”

THIS REVIEW WILL INCLUDE CONFIRMATION OF ACCURACY AND CONSISTENCY WITH FINANCIAL STATEMENTS, COMPLETENESS OF SCHEDULES AND DISCLOSURES, ACCURACY OF NARRATIVES RELATIVE TO GOVERNANCE, POLICIES, AND PROGRAMMING, AND THE ACCURATE REFLECTION OF THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION AND ACTIVITIES. 4. A COMPLETE FORM 990 WILL THEN BE PROVIDED TO THE BOARD MEMBERS AHEAD OF A MEETING WHERE THE FILING OF THE FORM 990 WILL BE APPROVED.
