Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
At the outset of 2024, the Sweet Dreams Senior Pet Sanctuary (SDSPS) had two senior dogs in its care, both of whom had been surrendered toward the end of 2023. Over the course of the year, the sanctuary received an additional 16 senior dogs and 4 senior cats, resulting in a total of 18 senior dogs and 4 senior cats enrolled in our program. These animals were surrendered primarily due to changes in their elderly owners' circumstances, particularly related to declining health, transitions to assisted living facilities and nursing homes, or other housing situations where pet ownership was no longer feasible. Nine elderly individuals were directly supported by the mission of Sweet Dreams Senior Pet Sanctuary during periods of significant life change, such as transitioning into assisted living or experiencing declining health. Through the structured surrender process, these individuals were able to place their senior pets into the sanctuary's care, ensuring that their companions would continue to receive consistent, high-quality care in a safe and nurturing environment. This service not only provided peace of mind to the individuals but also aligned with the organization's goal of preventing the abandonment or shelter placement of aging pets. In addition to serving elderly seniors who are no longer able to care for their senior pets, SDSPS has a far greater impact. SDSPS reduces the burden on the families of those seniors who are faced with rehoming the pets, the shelters that might otherwise have to house the pets, and the amazing number of hard-working rescue volunteers who must make difficult decisions daily because of an overwhelming number of surrendered animals.$0$53,584
Of the total animals currently under our care, six senior dogs and one senior cat have been placed in loving homes through our Guardian Angel program. This initiative allows animals to live in permanent foster placements, where they receive consistent companionship and care tailored to their needs. Although these animals reside with their forever fosters, they remain active participants in our program, with SDSPS retaining financial responsibility for their medical care. This arrangement ensures that each animal continues to receive high-quality, compassionate care without placing an undue burden on their foster families. To date, 10 compassionate individuals have embraced the role of Guardian Angels, opening their homes and hearts to senior pets in need. These fosters have provided loving, stable environments for animals who may have otherwise faced an uncertain future. Through the Guardian Angel (Forever Foster) Program, each participant has experienced the joy and emotional fulfillment that comes with pet companionship without the added stress of managing veterinary costs. This model has proven especially meaningful for individuals who longed to care for a pet but were previously limited by financial or medical constraints. By alleviating the financial burden, Sweet Dreams Senior Pet Sanctuary has empowered these fosters to form deep, lasting bonds with their senior companions, enhancing the lives of both pet and human. Many have expressed that the presence of a senior pet has brought renewed purpose, daily routine, and emotional comfort, thus demonstrating the profound mutual benefit of this program.$0$7,045
