“Although 2024 was a ramp-up, growth, and evolution year for nhls following the initial launch and start-up phase of nhls in 2023, 2024 reflects only a partial year of activity as the organization continued to build out. The evolution of nhls in 2024 was marked by the following key activities: 1) the official launch of nhls' board of directors, who serve as the governing body for nhls. Nhls bylaws were ratified by a newly formed board on june 19, 2024. The newly formed board in 2024 consisted of 7 members: - 3 of the initial 5 early "founders", who signed the articles of incorporation in 2023. - 4 contributing "founding members" - including two representatives from organizations that became founding members in 2023, and the addition of 2 new founding member representatives in 2024. Additionally, 3 officers were voted in by the board on june 19, 2024 including: president - andrea hechavarria treasurer - cynthia conde secretary - john whelan 2) the conflict of interest policy was reviewed and approved in 2024. 3) nhls opened up general membership in q2 2024 with a membership model based on 3 member types and tiered membership fee structure based on number of employees. - building membership was a significant focus area for 2024. - by the end of 2024, nhls had grown to 22 members, including 4 founding members and 18 general members. 4) the implementation of a staffing plan and operational support model to support nhls's growth, including hiring a president & ceo in august 2024, as well as the implementation of a robust operational support plan including: -professional services for legal, tax accounting, payroll, membership management, government affairs, insurance, events planning, and it. - nhls financial management for 2024 continues to be managed internally by the president/ceo and board treasurer. Budgeting and tracking processes implemented. - weekly and monthly operational management meetings, as well as regular oversight meetings with service providers. 5) the launch of programming including 3 main events: - life sciences industry ceo dinner - including members and prospective members, held in march 2024. - life sciences academia & industry summit at unh in september 2024 (the focus of this workshop was on workforce development to meet industry needs, and served as a precursor to a new nhls committee being launched in 2025. - nhls annual meeting - "live free life science" event in october 2024.”
