DescriptionGrantsExpenses
This year we can look back on some new accomplishments. Over 140,000 visitors came to the Tualatin River NWR last year, a substantial increase over the prior year. This includes 4,751 Environmental Education contacts, 23,391 visitors to the Wildlife Center and EE Shelter, 1400 visitors to our major events and 1,669 participants in talks and programs. Over 20,600 hours of time were volunteered by members this fiscal year. This includes 4,733 hours in the Wildlife Center, 7,615 hours for Maintenance and Monitoring, almost 2,000 in Roving, 1,847 hours for special event and 1,735 in Board hours. The Habitat Restoration and Biological Program expanded in FY 2014. Volunteers contributed 2,082 hours of habitat restoration/maintenance, 193 hours of invasive species control/research, and 1,208 hours of biological surveys for a total of 3,483 program volunteer hours. A monthly habitat work party program was reintroduced after being in hiatus for several years. In July 2014, the Friends hired a full-time Habitat Restoration and Biological Coordinator to coordinate the growing program. Partnerships with REI, The Nature Conservancy, and George Fox University were developed to increase the scope of habitat restoration. The Friends were awarded restoration grants of $10,000 and $25,000 from The Reser Family Foundation and Metro Nature in Neighborhood Program, respectively. Our Creative Nature Camp educated and involved children in grades 3-6. We received an additional donation by the Bill Wheeler family to purchase additional cameras and camera equipment that allowed us to loan each camper their own camera for a more powerful experience photographing the Refuge. This was the 18th Annual Tualatin River Bird Festival. The festival attracted over 1200 visitors for the one day event. This year's festival include Refuge wagon rides, early morning bird walks, over 20 conservation exhibitors archery, fishing, decoy painting and many other family friendly activities. The festival is free to visitors and is funded by sponsorships.$95,670-
