While no play in itself has changed the world, cygnet strives to present ideas which move others to go out and change it themselves.”

“Cygnet did not produce a performance in 2015, but was in the planning stages for a production of the set-up, adapted from the joseph moncure march's rhyming epic poem. The donation received in 2015 was designated for this production. The set-up tells a tale of savagery in the boxing ring, focusing on a black boxer whose return to the ring is secretly set up for defeat, exploring the corruption and racial prejudice of the times, and as with much period dramatic works, has clear resonances to our times. Staging this epic poem allows an audience to connect viscerally to the poetry, imagine the world of damon runyon presented by homer, in the format of an epic poem, yet, like moliere, in rhyming couplets. Also note: some remaining costs also paid for 2014 production of mary stuart.”
