“The umatilla chamber of commerce & visitor center was formed to actively promote local and regional businesses by providing opportunities and platforms where our members connect for the benefit of the community. The chamber uses social media (web page, facebook primarily) to accomplish this, in addition to newsletters and free local public radio. Membership services: the chamber business outreach activities have included: grand opening/ribbon cutting ceremonies travel oregon membership for the purpose of tourism strategic planning attend and promote business luncheons web site development seminars. Annual events supporting the community and local business base include: landing days (founders day celebration) distinguished citizen banquet. Halloween on 6th street (coordinate a downtown business driven event for the community) the chamber also hosts community forums, most notably city management staff hiring and city council election public forums. T supporting and encouraging a healthy business community while working to increase tourism to ensure economic growth and stability. The umatilla chamber is working in partnership with umatilla county tourism, the city of umatilla and other local city chambers to develop methods and means to increase tourism. The umatilla chamber of commerce offices are located in our visitor center (formally a state of oregon welcome center) located just off of i-82 at the entrance to oregon state. Umatilla chamber of commerce board of directors is an all volunteer organization, and we have one full time paid employee who manages the visitor center and daily duties related to the activities mentioned above. It is difficult to estimate percentages of time dedicated to any of the events and activities. Our one employee's office is in the visitor center that she manages. A rough estimate is 20% of her time is dedicated to visitor center management and 80% is dedicated to membership services as detailed above. Volunteers, including chamber board members, serve on planning and work teams to accomplish the activities and events.”
