Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Community outreach and presentations provide a structure for educating the public, reducing stigma and discrimination. Public awareness events and activities, including mental illness awareness week and namiwalks, successfully fight stigma and encourage understanding. Nami works with service organizations, the faith community, businesses, schools and with other members of our community on a daily basis to make sure they understand how important mental health is. One such program is ending the silence. During the 2018-19 fiscal year nami clackamas gave 46 ending the silence presentations to 1441 junior and senior high school students. The results of anonymous evaluations is impressive. Some of the things students have written are: "it was cool that there are actual people who are successful & have mental illnesses-; "thank you for helping me understand this, it gave me chills.-; "i think you guys are saving & helping a lot of lives because of this & i want to thank you." ending the silence is also available for school staff and parents.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4D

Educational classes include nami basics, peer-to peer, family-to-family and de familia a familia. Our education programs ensure that families and individuals effected by mental health concerns in our community get the support and information they need. All classes are offered at no cost and taught by trained teachers who have similar lived experience. During the last fiscal year nami clackamas held eight (8) weekly class series ranging from six (6) weeks to twelve (12) weeks. One class evaluation contained the comment "nami has brought me so many gifts but mostly, a renewed 'hope' & understanding" other programs include a newsletter, in our own voice, public policy and advocacy work.
