Activity 2

Education and training: the organization provides innovative, education tools to youth and parents as well as businesses, government organizations and residents, working on prevention strategies at the local level. Resources include, but are not limited to: interactive classroom presentations to youth; the "parents teaching prevention" program that trains parents, grandparents, and other adult volunteers to educate kindergartners through sixth-graders; alcohol and drug informational materials; innovative youth engagement in school and community prevention; media messages and earned media through news stories; and a comprehensive web site with news, information, and links to other local and national resources.

Activity 3

Community organization and advocacy: lines for life is highly regarded for its leadership in substance abuse and suicide prevention issues. With a focus on educating lawmakers, the organization consults with state and national leaders on legislation affecting liquor laws, underage drinking, and access to drugs. Lines for life raises awareness of underage drinking and other youth drug issues with targeted media campaigns, and by working to remove alcohol products that clearly target teens from oregon store shelves. In 2010, lines for life's media outreach helped cause swift action to ban synthetic cannabis throughout the state, brought pressure to bear on the sale of alcoholic energy drinks, averted the establishment of medical marijuana dispensaries, and promoted a first-of-its-kind prescription drug abuse summit.
