| IRS990/Desc | 0 | COUNCIL FOR INSIGHT, COMPASSION & RESILIENCE (CICR) IS A SIX-MONTH PROGRAM DESIGNED FOR INCARCERATED PARTICIPANTS THAT TEACHES THE PRACTICE OF COUNCIL AND ITS FACILITATION. CICR INCLUDES ELEMENTS OF THE FOUNDATIONS OF COUNCIL TRAINING OFFERED BY THE ORGANIZATION, THOUGH TAILORED FOR USE INSIDE PRISON. AFTER THE INITIAL 16-HOUR TRAINING WORKSHOP, PARTICIPANTS FOLLOW EXERCISES AND ACTIVITIES PROVIDED IN THE COURSE MANUAL, EXPLORING TOPICS THAT UNFOLD IN A PROSCRIBED CURRICULAR EVOLUTION. THEY GATHER EVERY WEEK TO DISCUSS AND PRACTICE COUNCIL, FACILITATED BY ROTATING MEMBERS OF THE GROUP. COUNCIL TOPICS CORRESPOND TO THE MATERIAL COVERED IN THE PARTICIPANT MANUAL. THE CICR PROGRAM'S PEDAGOGY IS BASED ON MINDFULNESS AND RESTORATIVE JUSTICE PRINCIPLES, FOCUSING ON TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR PAST BEHAVIOR AND THE HARM CAUSED TO VICTIMS, TO OTHERS WHO HAVE BEEN IMPACTED (FRIENDS, FAMILY, COMMUNITY) AND TO THE HARM PASSED DOWN THROUGH GENERATIONS. COUNCIL REENTRY PROGRAM (CRP) REDUCES RECIDIVISM THROUGH ADDRESSING THE NEEDS OF FORMERLY INCARCERATED INDIVIDUALS WHO RETURN HOME AND COMMIT TO SUCCESSFUL REENTRY. CRP SUPPORTS THE NEEDS OF PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS WITH A CUSTOMIZED APPROACH THAT OFFERS WARM HAND-OFF SUPPORT SERVICES INITIATED DURING INCARCERATION, AND CONTINUES THROUGHOUT THE RELEASE AND REINTEGRATION PROCESS WITH CASE MANAGEMENT, ONGOING COUNCIL SESSIONS FOR PARTICIPANTS AND THEIR FAMILIES, AND ADVANCED TRAINING IN COUNCIL FACILITATION FOR THOSE WHO HAVE FOUND HEALING IN THIS PRACTICE AND WANT TO CARRY IT TO THEIR COMMUNITIES. LOS ANGELES REENTRY COLLABORATIVE (LARC) IS A MULTI-SECTOR, COMMUNITY-DRIVEN COLLABORATIVE THAT PROMOTES THE SUCCESSFUL REENTRY OF FORMERLY INCARCERATED INDIVIDUALS THROUGH ATTENDING TO THEIRHEALTH NEEDS, AS WELL AS RESOURCING THE REENTRY SECTOR AS A WHOLE. BURNOUT IS COMMON AMONGST THOSE WORKING IN THE SECTOR AND WE BELIEVE THAT A HEALTHY REENTRY SECTOR WILL BE BETTER EQUIPPED TO SERVE RETURNING INDIVIDUALS IN ACHIEVING THEIR REENTRY GOALS. LARC BUILDS A MULTILAYERED COLLABORATIVE APPROACH TO ADDRESS THE TRAUMA, MENTAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ISSUES, VIOLENCE, AND ECONOMIC DISPARITIES ASSOCIATED WITH RETURNING FROM INCARCERATION. THIS INITIATIVE HELPS ENHANCE PARTICIPANTS' HEALTH, INCREASE SOCIAL WELLNESS, AND PREVENT FURTHER VIOLENCE AND TRAUMA IN THE COMMUNITY. LARC'S QUARTERLY EVENTS (ONE IN-PERSON, ONE VIRTUAL), DIGITAL NEWSLETTER, AND ONLINE RESOURCES ARE UTILIZED BY THOUSANDS OF REPRESENTATIVES FROM HUNDREDS OF MEMBER ORGANIZATIONS, INCLUDING NONPROFITS, LOCAL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS, EDUCATORS, LEGAL EXPERTS, AND MANY OTHERS INVESTED IN SERVING THE REENTRY COMMUNITY. |
