“The mission of modo for the people is to bring free or low-cost medical care to the underserved population on maui. The organization is founded on the belief that everyone should have access to competent medical care, regardless of income.”
“In 2024, modo for the people expanded its commitment to serving maui's underserved communities, deepening our focus on local residents facing financial hardship and limited access to healthcare. This year, we provided essential medical care to 400 patients, ensuring that no one was turned awaywhether they sought help in our clinic, required support through our street medicine program, or were unable to afford a house call. Our 2024 efforts shifted toward stabilizing long-term community health following the ongoing impacts of the lahaina wildfire. We continued to serve fire survivors, while also identifying and addressing emerging needs among local families, seniors, and individuals who lack insurance or the ability to pay for care. Mental health became a central pillar of this year's work, with a growing emphasis on trauma recovery. Our team has been actively supporting lahaina residents experiencing post-traumatic stress, and we are preparing to introduce stellate ganglion blocks (sgbs) as an innovative treatment option for ptsd related to the wildfire. Beyond crisis response, we expanded access to everyday medical care for patients who traditionally fall through the gaps of the healthcare system - including those unable to afford clinic visits, house calls, or ongoing medication management. Our physicians, np/pas, nurses, medical assistants, and mental health partners worked collaboratively to deliver compassionate, judgment-free care to maui residents who often have nowhere else to turn. With the continued support of donors, volunteers, and community partners, modo for the people remains dedicated to providing high-quality, accessible care to anyone in need. In 2024, our mission grew beyond disaster relief to become a sustained, community-centered model of healthcare equity - directly supporting maui's most vulnerable populations during an ongoing period of recovery and rebuilding. Looking ahead, we are laying the groundwork for our first annual fundraising gala, which will allow us to expand ptsd treatment resources, increase access to local mental health care, and further ensure that every maui resident - regardless of financial status - can receive the medical support they deserve. Modo for the people is honored to continue serving maui with compassion, resilience, and unwavering commitment to health equity.”
