“Assistance in licensure of members: in accordance with our mission for professional development and advocacy for our members, aksha initiated in 2018 an ad-hoc committee on licensure, nancy lovering and molly thompson as co-chairs. Aksha has licensure without a licensing board. Since 2000, speech-language pathologists and audiologists have been licensed in alaska. As the number of licensed practitioners increased both in and out of the state (due to telehealth providers), it became a concern that consumers may be at-risk due to lack of oversight regarding standards of practice. Aksha hired a consultant to look into the feasibility of changes the licensing regulations to add a board for speech-language pathology and audiology. The consultant was also asked for input regarding interstate licensure, which was tasked to our state association from the national association.”
