“The purposes of the Alaska Press Club are 1) To promote journalism as a profession and public service 2) To recognize excellence among Alaskas journalists and provide a forum for continuing education and debate, thereby encouraging professional excellence 3) To support journalism that provides Alaskans with comprehensive, independent information 4) To promote open govenment and preserve freedom of the press, while advancing public interest and understanding of these rights as quaranteed by the First Amendment of the US consitution. Alaska Press encourages the use of the Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics by all people in all media. In 2024, Press Club offered an in-person annual conference, which benefited over 150 working professionals and students statewide. We provided reimbursements for continuing education for 41 journalists to pursue professional development. This included travel and tuition to attend the annual conference and opportunities at a local and national level, including university courses and conferences offered by other non-profits and professional organizations. We also hosted an awards celebration to encourage the highest quality journalism in our state. Over 100 journalists entered the competition, which recognized excellence in the areas of public service, investigation, and comprehensive coverage.”
