“MAKE JEFFERSON BEAUTIFULMake Jefferson Beautiful is a campaign to enhance the beauty, safety and health of the community by revitalizing a major corridor, facilitating active modes of transportation (such as walking and biking), and activating the commercial environment for local businesses. This year we compiled research on the health and safety implications of infrastructure improvements like street trees and bike lanes and prepared traffic information, census data, vehicle and bike traffic data, and bike and pedestrian related injury data as part of a public education campaign. In June, RCP hosted a successful community visioning meeting where 50 community members participated in poster surveys voicing what types of street improvements the would like to see on Jefferson Blvd. It was a wonderful opportunity to provide public education on street speed safety, the benefits of street trees and bike lanes and much more. From the meeting we gained insight into the communitys top priorities for enhancing the beauty and safety of Jefferson Blvd. Working with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation and our elected leaders we elevated the project as a top priority for grant funding. END NEIGHBORHOOD DRILLINGThe Jefferson Drill Site, operated by Freeport-McMoRan Oil & Gas, sits in the middle of our residential neighborhood just a few feet from neighboring homes. The drill site severely impacts community health and safety. Our organizing work around this drill site aims to end oil and gas extraction in the neighborhood. Over the year RCP gained substantial understanding of the history and activity of the Jefferson Drill Site uncovering unconscionable actions by the City, the operator and other regulators. We have created public education materials in English and Spanish and disseminated these widely, reaching an estimated 800 individuals. We have created a short documentary film, to share information about the health impacts from the drilling site and ways for residents to get involved. Earlier in the year, RCP was able to galvanize community opposition to thwart a proposed expansion of the site. RCP continues to advocate for stronger protections for neighborhoods impacted by oil and gas extraction and is laying the groundwork to challenge the drill sites operations.”

“West Adams Neighborhood AssociationBuilding a safe, healthy, opportunity-rich community where children and their families thrive requires the reweaving a communitys frayed social fabric. Five years of patient work has prepared RCP to spin off the West Adams Neighborhood Association as a separate, self-sustaining 501c(3). Over the year members of the association drafted bylaws, prepared articles of incorporation, designed a logo, formed numerous committees, and laid the groundwork for elections and membership dues.”
