“OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: College Support (CS) With a 96% college matriculation rate over the past five years, 175 college scholars were served through ongoing comprehensive support and outreach, and 100% of freshmen received on site campus visits from Rainier Scholars staff. An essential College 101 retreat provided critical support for transition into college life. Internships and additional career networking opportunities were provided to build professional networks. In 2014, 176 scholars will be attending 75 different colleges in 23 states.Cohort I achieved a 90% college graduation rate within five years. Cohort II is on track to achieve similar numbers in this upcoming year. Rainier Scholars alumni are now employed throughout the region and the country at companies/institutions varying from Yahoo, Google and Boeing to Liberty Mutual, Teach for America and Uncommon Schools. Other alums have begun medical school and/or are conducting medical research throughout the greater Seattle area, while others are pursuing Masters in Social Work and Advanced Physical Therapy degrees. Rainier Scholars alums are living in China on a Fulbright Scholarship and building community gardening programs through the Napier Prize Foundation. As we look at the leaders and community members our scholars are evolving into as they complete their college degree, we feel humble confidence that the model, which begins at age 11, truly offers the opportunity for students who otherwise would not have the access to high-quality college preparation and leadership development experiences, to become the young adults they want to be, and in so doing, become members who so greatly enrich our community and world.”
