“The Maple Valley Creative Arts Council executed several programs in the Arts to benefit our community. 1) Two ArtWalks. Local artists displayed several works of art in two different locations in the City. The opening reception welcomed an average of 60 people who enjoyed live music and refreshments. 2) Arts Fest and Gala showcased local visual artists, music performers, young talent and theatrical performers Close to 2000 people attended. We added a second stage in the Arboretum to accommodate added interest. 3) Maple Valley Idol, Jr. Young people, ages 8 - 16 sang and performed for the honor of being recognized for their talents. The four top winners were given opportunities to perform in the community throughout the year. 4) Theater performances The Creative Arts Center hosted a Seattle theatrical troupe, Midnight Mystery Theater, three times. A local playwright produced performances at the CAC. 5) Maple Valley Mural Volunteers (MVMV) A local group of mural enthusiasts met regularly to freshen up the three murals the MVCAC had painted. 6) Summer Concerts in the Arboretum 7) Slug Hunt The third annual Easter egg-styled hunt for clay decorated slugs. 700 people participated. 8) A Christmas Carol play 9) Open Mic held monthly 10) The MVCAC collaborated with the Maple Valley Historical Society to hire a muralist to paint a historic scene on one of its buildings. Each program was designed to attract the interests of community members. All programs were ADA accessible. Most programs were offered free of charge or very low cost. All programs were open to people of all ages and genders. We continue to expand our programming to celebrate the arts and create community through the arts.”
