JOSEPH MEDICAL CENTER, MULTICARE HEALTH SYSTEM OPERATING TACOMA GENERAL/ALLENMORE HOSPITAL, AND A COLLABORATION WITH MADIGAN ARMY MEDICAL CENTER (MAMC). TRAUMA TRUST WAS ESTABLISHED TO PROVIDE LEVEL 2 ADULT TRAUMA SERVICES IN THE WEST TRAUMA REGION. PRIOR TO THE FORMATION OF TRAUMA TRUST, MAMC WAS THE ONLY LEVEL 2 ADULT TRAUMA CENTER IN THE TACOMA/SOUTH SOUND AREA.SINCE TRAUMA TRUST'S FORMATION, IT HAS MAINTAINED A LEVEL 2 ADULT TRAUMA DESIGNATION FROM THE WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH WITH MOST RECENT RE-DESIGNATION IN JUNE OF 2011. TRAUMA TRUST HAS PROVIDED ADULT TRAUMA CARE TO THE TACOMA/SOUTH SOUND AREA AND HAS SERVED AS A VALUABLE RESOURCE IN THE WEST TRAUMA REGION TO OTHER SURROUNDING TRAUMA CENTERS CARING FOR PATIENTS WITH COMPLEX ORTHOPEDIC, CHEST, ABDOMINAL, FACIAL, AND HEAD AND SPINE INJURIES. TRAUMA TRUST HAS SERVED 21,166 TRAUMA PATIENTS SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 2000, WITH 1,875 OF THOSE PATIENTS BEING SEEN IN 2013. IN SEPTEMBER OF 2009, TRAUMA TRUST EXPANDED ITS SERVICES TO INCLUDE ACUTE CARE SURGICAL SERVICES (ACSS) AT ST. JOSEPH MEDICAL CENTER AND TACOMA GENERAL/ALLENMORE HOSPITAL. ACSS WAS IDENTIFIED AS A NECESSITY BY THE TWO HOSPITALS FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS INCLUDING: A NEED FOR 24/7 COVERAGE FOR EMERGENCY SURGERY, IMPROVED THROUGHPUT, STANDARDIZED CARE, AND A TEAM BASED APPROACH. THE ACSS SERVICES SAW A RAPID INCREASE IN PATIENT VOLUME AND HAS DOUBLED THE NUMBER OF PATIENTS SEEN BY TRAUMA TRUST PROVIDERS. ACSS HAS SEEN 7,933 PATIENTS SINCE 2009 WITH 1,902 OF THOSE PATIENTS BEING SEEN IN 2013.TRAUMA TRUST SUPPORTS THE WEST TRAUMA REGION BY SERVING AS A RESOURCE AND PROVIDING EDUCATION TO SURROUNDING TRAUMA CENTERS AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES (EMS). TRAUMA TRUST ATTENDS AND HOSTS EVENTS AND PROVIDES EDUCATION AND FEEDBACK ON STANDARDS OF CARE OF THE CRITICALLY INJURED PATIENT. TRAUMA TRUST ALSO HAS REPRESENTATION ON THE WASHINGTON STATE TRAUMA AND EMERGENCY SERVICES STEERING COMMITTEE AND CHAIRS THE TRAUMA MEDICAL DIRECTOR TECHNICAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE.TRAUMA TRUST PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR RESIDENT AND PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT STUDENTS INCLUDING MADIGAN ARMY MEDICAL CENTER AND NAVY PERSONNEL. WE HAVE APPROXIMATELY 15-20 ROTATIONS PER YEAR THROUGH OUR SERVICE THAT ALLOWS FOR MONITORED HANDS-ON CARE OF TRAUMA PATIENTS.TRAUMA TRUST'S SIGNATURE EDUCATION EVENT IS THE ANNUAL TACOMA TRAUMA CONFERENCE HELD AT THE GREATER TACOMA CONVENTION & TRADE CENTER. OUR 7TH ANNUAL EVENT WAS HELD ON NOVEMBER 15, 2013 WITH OVER 320 ATTENDING FROM ALL OVER WASHINGTON STATE. ATTENDEES INCLUDED REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE EMS COMMUNITY, NURSES, PROVIDERS AND ANCILLARY STAFF. THIS ONE DAY MULTIDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE PROVIDES UP-TO-DATE CLINICAL INFORMATION ON THE CARE AND MANAGEMENT OF INJURED PATIENTS.IN 2013 OUR INJURY PREVENTION EFFORTS WERE PRIMARILY DIRECTED TOWARD THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A NEW INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOR OUR 65 YEARS AND OLDER TRAUMA PATIENTS WHO HAVE SUSTAINED A FALL. THE INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAM HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOLLOWING THE STOPPING ELDERLY ACCIDENTS, DEATHS, & INJURIES TOOL KIT (STEADI), AN EVIDENCED BASED PROGRAM DEVELOPED BY THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION. INCLUSION CRITERION WAS ESTABLISHED TO SELECT PATIENTS THAT WOULD BENEFIT MOST FROM THIS INNOVATIVE PROGRAM. THE CRITERION INCLUDES:*SIXTY-FIVE YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER,*HAVE FALLEN IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS,*HAVE NO WEIGHT BEARING RESTRICTIONS,*ARE COGNITIVELY INTACT, AND*HAVE PRIMARY CARE PROVIDERS OR A REFERRAL TO ONE. THE INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAM HAS BEEN PILOTED AT ST. JOSEPH TRAUMA CLINIC BEGINNING MAY 2014. TO OFFSET IMPLEMENTATION EXPENSES, A WEST REGION EMS AND TRAUMA COUNCIL MINI GRANT WAS APPLIED FOR.
