“The leif erikson international foundation is dedicated to the study, education, and promotion of leif erikson as the first recorded european to set foot on american shores. We seek to promote nordic culture in the northwest and establish connections between americans and citizens of the nordic countries. We have created a new home for the original statue by redesigning the leif erikson plaza at shilshole bay marina with 14 runic-like stones and the names of 2,351 nordic immigrants. In november of 2015, the leif erikson international foundation held a ceremony to celebrate and unveil a new plaque at the leif erikson plaza with 75 additional names of immigrants from the nordic countries. We continue to give talks and have a presence at community events. We are also continuing to take donations for additional plaques to be installed in the future.”
