“The board, by resolution adopted by a majority of the directors in office, may designate and appoint one or more standing or temporary committees, each of which shall consist of two or more directors. Such committees shall have and exercise the authority of the directors in the management of the corporation, subject to such limitations as may be prescribed by the board and by applicable washington law, except that no committee shall have the authority to (a) amend, alter or repeal these bylaws; (b) elect, appoint or remove any member of any other committee or any director or officer of the corporation; (c) amend the articles of incorporation; (d) adopt a plan of merger or consolidation with another corporation; (e) authorize the sale, lease or exchange of all or substantially all the property and assets of the corporation not in the ordinary course of business; (f) authorize the voluntary dissolution of the corporation or revoke proceedings therefor; (g) adopt a plan for the distribution of the assets of the corporation; or (h) amend, alter or repeal any resolution of the board which by its terms provides that it shall not be amended, altered or repealed by a committee. The designation and appointment of any such committee and the delegation thereto of authority shall not operate to relieve the board or any individual director of any responsibility imposed on it, him or her by law.”
“The form 990 is reviewed at board meeting prior to filing.”
“Conflicts of interest are dealt with as they arise.”
“The board approves all compensation and uses comparability data to make the determination. Minutes are kept for these decisions.”
“The organization's governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements are available upon request.”
“Individualized student support - the organization places a site coordinator at selected k-12 schools to work with students who are most vulnerable for dropping out: those with significant trauma and adverse childhood experiences from poverty and homelessness, death or incarceration of a loved one, not having their basic needs met, along with experiencing and witnessing physical, mental and/or emotional abuse or violence in their homes and communities. All of these factors influence youths' potential risks for social, emotional, and behavioral problems as well as their ability to actively engage and succeed in school and communities. Personalized support for students helps them to overcome these social and economic barriers so they can succeed in school and life. The organization also provides school-wide activities that bring together the whole school, resources for students, and/or the students into the community. Prevention programs and other services - throughout the year the organization coordinates and brokers services for several seattle schools. The organization provides thousands of students with backpacks and school supplies annually. Food support, connections to clothing, and personal hygiene items are given to students and families who can least afford these items. The organization also connects other community services and programs to schools, based on school needs.”

| IRS990ScheduleI/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 0 | GRANTS TO ORGANIZATIONS: CISS DOES NOT TYPICALLY AWARD GRANTS TO OTHER ORGANIZATIONS. CISS WAS AWARDED GRANT FUNDING UNDER THE KING COUNTY BEST START FOR KIDS (BSK) PROGRAM, AND PARTNERED WITH COMMUNITY PASSAGEWAYS THROUGHOUT. THE PROGRAM ENDED DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2021 AND CISS TRANSFERRED THE UNSPENT FUNDS TO COMMUNITY PASSAGEWAYS TO BE USED IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE ORIGINAL BSK GRANT TERMS. CISS DOES NOT MONITOR COMMUNITY PASSAGEWAYS' USE OF THE FUNDS. GRANTS TO INDIVIDUALS: IN ORDER TO DISTRIBUTE FUNDS RELATED TO FOOD INSECURITY EQUITABLY ACROSS PARTNER SCHOOL SITES, CISS UTILIZES A FORMULA THAT WOULD PRIORITIZE THOSE WITH THE HIGHEST NEED. THE FIRST STEP IS TAKING THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS ENROLLED MULTIPLIED BY THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS RECEIVING FREE AND REDUCED-PRICE LUNCH TO DETERMINE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS RECEIVING FREE AND REDUCED-PRICE LUNCH AT ONE SCHOOL SITE. THAT AMOUNT IS THEN DIVIDED BY THE TOTAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS RECEIVING FREE AND REDUCED- PRICE LUNCH ACROSS ALL SITES TO DETERMINE THE PERCENTAGE OF THE OVERALL FUNDS TO BE DISTRIBUTED AT EACH PARTNER SCHOOL. OTHER ASSISTANCE IS BASED ON THE NEED OF THE STUDENT AND THEIR FAMILY. RECORDS ARE MAINTAINED IN THE COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS DATA MANAGEMENT (CISDM) NATIONAL DATABASE. |

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 0 | INDIVIDUALIZED STUDENT SUPPORT - THE ORGANIZATION PLACES A SITE COORDINATOR AT SELECTED K-12 SCHOOLS TO WORK WITH STUDENTS WHO ARE MOST VULNERABLE FOR DROPPING OUT: THOSE WITH SIGNIFICANT TRAUMA AND ADVERSE CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCES FROM POVERTY AND HOMELESSNESS, DEATH OR INCARCERATION OF A LOVED ONE, NOT HAVING THEIR BASIC NEEDS MET, ALONG WITH EXPERIENCING AND WITNESSING PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND/OR EMOTIONAL ABUSE OR VIOLENCE IN THEIR HOMES AND COMMUNITIES. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO CONNECTS OTHER COMMUNITY SERVICES AND PROGRAMS TO SCHOOLS, BASED ON SCHOOL NEEDS. |
