“The form 990 is prepared by an independent accounting firm and reviewed by administrative staff members prior to being reviewed by the finance committee of the board. The finance committee reviews and approves the draft. A copy of the form 990 is then provided to the full board of directors for their review. Subsequent to providing the return to the board, form 990 is filed with the irs.”

“All board members and officers complete a board questionnaire annually to disclose any conflicts that might exist. The chair of the board reviews the annual questionnaires and notifies the full board of all potential conflicts. The board of directors will evaluate each disclosure to determine whether it does constitute an actual conflict. If a conflict is found to exist, said board member or officer will recuse himself/herself from voting on any transaction or arrangement in which he/she has a potential or actual conflict and he/she shall not be present when any such vote is taken.”

“The executive committee of the board collects data from local and national peer organizations to determine a compensation policy for both officers and key employees. The review process was last performed in december of 2009, after which contracts were signed with the three officers. Employee contracts renew on a rolling schedule, with one renewal each year. Compensation reviews occur as each contract is renewed. For the contract expiring during the year ended july 31, 2014, compensation was reviewed and a new contract established in the fall of 2014.”

“The 5th avenue theatre association participates in joint ventures as a passive investor only. The joint ventures relate to musical productions and are directly related to the association's exempt purpose. Our involvement as a passive investor is merely to provide a return on our investment for future endeavors and to assist in securing national musicals for future seasons.”

“These volunteers include both board members (39) and general volunteers (125) who contributed about 9,000 hours of time during the twelve month period ended on july 31, 2014.”

“Program service accomplishments: the 5th avenue theatre is the only professional musical theater in the pacific northwest that produces our own broadway-caliber musicals that prominently showcase local artists. We serve our community by providing jobs to nearly 700 local theater artists annually, generating significant revenue for the economic vitality of our city, and entertaining over 370,000 people with our world-class main series productions. We strive to make musical theater available for all to enjoy through deeply discounted tickets for students, educators, and young adults; complimentary tickets to local organizations serving disadvantaged populations, accessibility services for patrons with mobility, vision, and hearing impairments; and our free curtain up! Community event. We serve over 60,000 young people each year through our education programs that share the magic of theater, teach about the productions on our stage and nurture the audience and performers of today and tomorrow. We partner with high-need public schools in the seattle school district to provide free arts opportunities for students in the classroom and at our theatre. We serve the art form through our high quality productions that reflect the broad scope and cultural significance of the american musical - its past, present and future. Our revivals of golden age classics bring fresh insight to these great musicals while honoring the intent of the original, with full-size casts and orchestras. Additionally, we have a robust program focused on the development and production of new works. Since 2001, we have produced 14 new musicals, sent seven to broadway, and two more will open by summer 2014. Five of these shows have garnered a total of 14 tony awards, including best musical for hairspray and memphis.”
