“Awsp has five member categories: active, advocate, associate, aspiring and lifetime. Active membership includes national membership and legal benefits. Active membership is for principals, assistant principals and others employed in professional work related to the elementary, middle, or high school administrative team. Advocate membership includes national membership and legal benefits. Advocate membership is for former active members (principal and assistant principals) who are leaving their role but are still employed by a school or district in another capacity. Associate membership is for educational professionals who are not part the administrative team and do not need national legal benefits. Aspiring membership is for those who are pursuing or considering a career in administration and/or are working to obtain their principal credentials. Lifetime membership is for former members who are no longer employed by a school or district, with no intent to return to a full-time position.”

“Active membership in awsp consists of principals and assistant principals from any of washington elementary, middle and high schools who have paid annual dues and are grouped in to grade level leadership committees, elementary grade level leadership committee, middle level leadership committee and high school grade level leadership committee. The awsp president-elect is nominated from one of the grade level committees on an annual rotating basis. The full awsp board voters to confirm the nominee as awsp president-elect. Each grade level committee brings forward a grade level chair, past chair elect and a 3 year budget representative.”

“Awsp board decisions are not required to be ratified. Awsp membership would be asked to vote on constitution and bylaw changes.”

“The awsp board reviews the draft 990 prior to filing.”

“Awsp board members are asked annually to read and affirm that they do not have any conflicts with awsp matters. Awsp board members sign the conflict of interest policy annually. Awsp management reviews the affirmations. Conflicts identified are discussed with the member and depending on the nature of the conflict, an agreement is reached to adjust the board members responsibilities.”

“Awsp surveys salary and benefit information of similiar organizations with similiar responsibilities. Salaries and benefits increases are approved by the awsp board.”

“Governing documents, conflict of interest policy and financial statements are made available to the public upon request.”
