An interactive community where artists and the public witness, contemplate and engage in dialogue on today's thought-provoking issues, ideas and art, presented with intelligence, insight, and humor. Committed to stewarding the historic landmark building that is our home.

Since its founding in 1965, the theatre has made and continues to make a significant contribution to the vitality of seattles downtown neighborhood and arts community; it has valued and elevated the work of local artists for more than 50 years; and it has transformed individual lives through the power of storytelling. We are committed to making theatre as an act of citizenship to engage audiences in understanding the issues of our time.

Form 990, Page 1, Part I, Line 6

All of the ushers for the theatre are volunteers. As a benefit for their volunteer activities, they are allowed to see the theatrical productions for free.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Act continues to fulfill its mission of captivating, challenging, and inspiring audiences. In addition to the 48th annual production of a christmas carol, act produced a four-play season in 2023-24. The season included cambodian rock band by lauren yee, the case for the existence of god by sam hunter, stew by zora howard, and culminating with steffano massinis play the lehman trilogy. Audience regrowth following the pandemic continues to be a priority for the organization, and we achieved a 45% subscription growth over the 2022-23 season. In october 2023, act launched the new works northwest festival featuring readings of "the history of theatre, part 2" by reginald andr jackson, "mrs. Loman is leaving" by katie forgette, "golden" by andrew lee creech, "vial man" by steven dietz, and "the sunless scar" by maggie lee. Act successfully developed two of these works into full productions, staging "mrs. Loman is leaving- and "golden" as part of our 2024-25 season, bringing our total of world premiere productions to 49. Act continued its pay-what-you-choose ticketing program to increase economic accessibility. Every performance offers a minimum of twenty (20) pay-what-you-choose seats available in all sections of the theatre, purchased in advance. This advance purchase option not only makes programming accessible to individuals with limited financial resources but also allows them to properly plan and schedule their attendance, removing barriers to experiencing live theatre. In acts 2023-2024, over 36% of our tickets were free or reduced price, fulfilling acts charitable purpose by making theatre accessible to a broad economic demographic.
