IRS990/Desc0FOR 125 YEARS, WFIA HAS SUPPORTED AND PROTECTED THE INDEPENDENT GROCERS' OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR MEMBERS TO CONNECT WITH EACH OTHER AND THEIR LEGISLATORS. IT IS OUR HOPE THAT THIS LEGACY CONTINUES AS WE GROW AS AN ASSOCIATION AND FIND CREATIVE WAYS TO BETTER SERVE OUR MEMBERS IN THIS COMING YEAR. THE WASHINGTON FOOD INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION REPRESENTS 553 FOOD AND BEVERAGE RETAIL, WHOLESALE, MANUFACTURERS AND ASSOCIATE MEMBERS WHO WORK TOGETHER THROUGH LEGISLATIVE ACTION TO ASSURE THAT EVERY LEVEL OF THE FOOD AND BEVERAGE INDUSTRY IS ABLE TO OPERATE AT A PROFIT WITHOUT UNDUE GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE. IN ADDITION, WE FOSTER RELATIONSHIP BUILDING BETWEEN RETAILERS AND SUPPLIERS TO BRING NEW AND EXCITING PRODUCTS TO MARKET. WFIA CREATED AFFILIATE RELATIONSHIPS WITH WASHINGTON NEIGHBORHOOD STORES, WASHINGTON WINERY INSTITUTE, AND WASHINGTON BREWERS GUILD TO ALLOW THEIR MEMBERS TO BECOME MEMBERS OF WFIA AND UTILIZE OFFERED ENHANCED SERVICES. FINALLY, WFIA FOCUSES ON SAVING MEMBERS MONEY THROUGH REDUCING THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS IN WORKERS' COMPENSATION AND EDUCATION IN COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL AND STATE LAWS. THE WORKERS' COMPENSATION RETROSPECTIVE PROGRAM RETURNED 5.8 MILLION DOLLARS TO PARTICIPATING MEMBERS.

IRS990/MissionDesc0WASHINGTON FOOD INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION (WIFA) IS THE ONLY STATE-BASED ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO PROMOTION AND PROTECTION OF THE GROCERY INDUSTRY SINCE OUR FOUNDING IN 1899. WIFA IS COMPOSED OF INDEPENDENT RETAILERS, MEANING PRIVATELY OWNED OR CONTROLLED FOOD RETAIL COMPANIES OPERATING IN A VARIETY OF FORMATS, AND THE MANY WHOLESALE DISTRIBUTORS, FOOD VENDORS/MANUFACTURERS AND SERVICE SUPPLIERS WHO SUPPORT AND WORK WITH THEIR RETAILERS. INDEPENDENTS ARE THE TRUE "ENTREPRENEURS" OF THE GROCERY INDUSTRY AND ARE DEDICATED TO THEIR CUSTOMERS, ASSOCIATES, AND NEIGHBORS, AND ARE OFTEN THE HEARTS OF THEIR COMMUNITIES. WFIA STRIVES TO PROTECT AND PROMOTE INDEPENDENTS AND THEIR SUPPLIERS THROUGH PROGRAMS THAT SAVE MONEY IN RETROSPECTIVE RATING AND REDUCES EXCESSIVE BURDENS OR BARRIERS FOR EMPLOYERS BY WORKING WITH STATE LEGISLATURE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS.
