“The purpose of the vassar kinry pta, in common with those of the national pta and the new york state pta, are: (a) to promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community and place of worship. (b) to raise the standards of home life. (c) to secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth. (d) to bring into closer relation the home and the school, so that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth. (e) to develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education.”

“Student programs- the pta provides funding for a variety of interdisciplinary presentations that integrate math, science, language arts, social studies and the arts for each grade level. Internet awareness, bullying and teen suicide prevention and character education have also been presented.”

“Flag day- pta encourages students to participate in an original essay or drawing depicting what the flag means to them. A winner is selected from each grade. Grandparent breakfast- the pta organizes breakfast for students and their grandparents or special adult. Photos are taken as a remembrance of the occasion. Ice cream social-the pta serves ice cream and toppings to students and their families to encourage the community to gather together. New comers picnic- pta organizes a picnic in august for incoming students. Ice pops are provided for refreshment while families picnic and socialize. A booth is also provided to answer any parent questions and to introduce the pta. Planners for sixth grade- pta provides planners to all 6 th graders as a uniform organizational tool and a way to communicate with parents. Reading programs- pta assists the librarians in providing an evening and week-long program, as well as, books and bookmarks to encourage reading at all grade levels. Recess fund- the pta assists the physical education teacher in replacing or purchasing new equipment for use at recess or the gym class. Science fair- the pta supports the fair by sending out sign up forms, setting up the event, preparing participation certificates and providing raffle prizes. Sixth grade dance- the pta sets up, decorates, chaperone and provides food and entertainment for the sixt grade winter dance. Sno-cone day- the pta provides sno-cones at kinry elementary for refreshment at recess. Staff appreciation - the pta provides breakfast and lunch to the staff at vassar and kinry.”
