GIRL RISING is a feature film and a global action campaign for girls education that confirms that powerful storytelling can drive change. The film, by Academy Award-nominated director Richard E. Robbins, spotlights nine unforgettable girls around the world striving beyond circumstance and overcoming nearly insurmountable odds to achieve their dreams. The storytelling skills of acclaimed writers and voice performances by renowned actors combine to spread this message: educating girls can transform societies. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: FAME HIGH - a film that draws into focus the in-class and at home dramas, competitions, heartbreaks and triumphs amongst a group of students at LACHSA: the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: GABE TOMORROW - fiscally sponsored project - Gabe Dunsmith is an 18 year-old cancer survivor and an aspiring environmental journalist. When he and his mother, Lee Ann, discover that they are living near a neglected toxic waste site that may have caused Gabe's thyroid cancer, they become determined to see it cleaned up. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: A NUCLEAR FAMILY - A feature-length documentary that follows filmmaker Adam Salkin on a journey to uncover the truth about a 1959 nuclear accident at the Santa Susana Field Lab near Los Angeles and subsequent toxic releases that have affected the health of his family and community. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: ABOVE AND BEYOND: The Birth of the Israeli Air Force A feature-length documentary about a group of WWII pilots that volunteered to fight for Israel in the War of Independence. As members of Machal volunteers from abroad this ragtag band of brothers not only turned the tide of the war, preventing the possible annihilation of Israel at the very moment of its birth; they also laid the groundwork for the Israeli Air Force. Katahdin completed this documentary produced by Nancy Spielberg. Directed by Roberta Grossman, the film examines the early days of the Israeli Air Force and the involvement of American Jewish pilots. The film was the opening night of the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival and has gone on to screen at film festivals throughout the U.S. and the world. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: ARS MINERVA- fiscally sponsored project - ARS MINERVA is a San Francisco-based nonprofit performing arts organization, founded in 2013 by Cline Ricci. The mission of ARS MINERVA is to bring creativity to the service of the arts and share its passion for Music by reviving forgotten Musical Treasures. Their first project will be the creation of the annual Carnival Festival. They will celebrate the glamorous and epicurean spirit of Venezia Barocca by resuscitating operas written for the Carnival during the 17th and 18th centuries and never again performed until now, as Ars Minerva world premieres. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 10: WHO WILL WRITE OUR HISTORY - This is a project about the secret archives of the Warsaw Ghetto in WWII, a completely unknown subject, and is about writing and telling history. Katahdin has acquired the right to the book called Who Will Write Our History, the definitive book on the subject. In 2015, Katahdin focused on research, scripting, fundraising, and pre-production. A scholars conference was held in Atlanta in November, 2015 during which scholars reviewed and made significant notes on the draft script. Katahdin also shot interviews with key scholars Sam Kassow, David Roskies, and Deborah Lipstadt and edited a fundraising sample reel. Our Editor began a string out edit of the interview material to determine which scenes will be visualized through archival footage and photographs and which scenes need re-enacted elements during production in May 2016.
