“The makai foundation is dedicated to helping those affected by the maui wildfires. We operate with a dual perspective: focusing on short-term direct aid and recovery services (which can span days to weeks), and long- term sustainable recovery measures that stretch months to years. Our primary areas of interest encompass disaster recovery, disaster advocacy and case-management, capacity building, community empowerment, housing solutions (both emergency housing, interim housing and long term housing), business revitalization, and health and well-being support. Within this framework, a significant component of our mission is ensuring that resources, like tools vital for tradespeople, are distributed to those in need. Our actions are deeply rooted in the communities of maui, notably in the lahaina and kula regions, as we aim to rebuild, revitalize, and reinforce the resilience of these areas. Current program areas include: 1. Disaster recovery sessions- "aloha navigator sessions" (like disaster coaching which helps to open up additional longer term funding through government and partner agencies. 2. Emergency housing. 3. Building homes and creating long-term sustainability/resiliency on the island by creating more affordable housing long term. 4. Furnishing homes for our displaced families once they are finally able to move into their transitional home (flipping houses that are in bad shape). 5. Replacing vehicles-fixing cars, replacing cars and trucks burned in the fire. 6. Rebuilding small businesses-replacing items that people need in order to begin working again. 7. Direct-aid-matching those in need with direct donors/grants. 8. Wellness support (both medicine and mental health support). 9. Vital records replaced (id cards/ passports/greencards).”

| IRS990ScheduleI/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 0 | DISASTER CASE-MANAGEMENT (DCMP) SUPPORT PROVIDED FROM OCTOBER 2023 THROUGH DECEMBER 2024 TO HELP GET PEOPLE INTO THE DCMP. OUR WORK WAS NOT ONLY TO IDENTIFY GAPS, BUT TO WORK TOWARDS CLOSING THEM. THIS MEANT WE INVESTED OUR TIME AND ENERGY IN WORKING WITH THE VARIOUS AGENCIES FOR THE YEAR POST-FIRE TO DO WHAT WE COULD TO HOLISTICALLY ENSURE THERE ARE LESS GAPS FOR PEOPLE TO FALL THROUGH. WE BUILT A VERY ROBUST DISASTER-CASE MANAGEMENT TRACKING SYSTEM AND CREATED A SYSTEM THAT ALLOWED US TO HELP OUR CASES APPLY FOR MULTIPLE GRANTS THAT THEY WERE ELIGIBLE FOR EASILY. WE WORKED WITH TRAUMA-INFORMED CASE MANAGEMENT VOLUNTEERS TO WORK WITH 832 CASES, AND AWARDED 90K OF DIRECT- AID GRANTS (UNMET NEEDS) IN 2024. WE PROVIDED GRANTS THROUGH RELOADABLE VISA CARDS AS ONE METHOD OF DELIVERING DIRECT-FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO OUR COMMUNITY IN NEED. THIS ADDS THE BENEFIT OF ENSURING THAT THE DONATIONS STAYS LOCAL ON ISLAND, CANNOT BE USED FOR ALCOHOL OR GAMBLING, AND HAS FRAUD-PROTECTION AS A FINAL LINE OF DEFENSE WITH MULTIPLE LEVELS OF VERIFICATION IN PLACE. EMERGENCY HOUSING: IN TIMES OF CRISIS, EVERY MOMENT COUNTS. THATS WHY AT MAKAI FOUNDATION, WE HAVE PRIORITIZED GETTING INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES INTO EMERGENCY HOUSING WITHIN HOURS RATHER THAN WEEKS. THIS COMMITMENT TO URGENCY HAS MADE A PROFOUND DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF THOSE WE SERVE, OFFERING IMMEDIATE RELIEF AND STABILITY DURING SOME OF THEIR MOST CHALLENGING MOMENTS. SUPPORTING SMALL BUSINESSES: THE MAKAI FOUNDATION WAS BUILT BY A GROUP OF LOCAL MAUI BUSINESS OWNERS, AND WE FELT A RESPONSIBILITY TO SUPPORT OUR KULA AND LAHAINA COMMUNITY, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO LOST THEIR BUSINESSES AND THEIR HOMES. WE UNDERSTAND THAT SURVIVORS ARE PART OF A LARGER COMMUNITY AND BY EMPOWERING THIS COMMUNITY, AND NOT ONLY THE INDIVIDUAL, WE ARE BUILDING AN IMPORTANT FOUNDATION OF RESILIENCE. WE KNOW THAT IF WE COULD HELP TO GET PEOPLE WORKING AGAIN, THEN THEY CAN BEGIN TO REBUILD THEIR OWN LIVES AND THAT RIPPLES OUT INTO THE LOCAL ECONOMY. WE LOOKED AT HOW WE COULD GET SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS WHAT THEY NEEDED TO BE OPERATIONAL AGAIN, BUILDING RESILIENCE IN THEIR OWN LIVES AGAIN. WE HAVE ACCOMPLISHED A LOT TO MAKE SURE THAT SMALL LOCAL BUSINESSES ARE ABLE TO REBUILD AFTER THE FIRE. WE HAVE REPLACED TOOLS FOR 17 CONTRACTORS AND FULLY EQUIPPED 5 SINGLE MOTHERS TO RELAUNCH THEIR CLEANING BUSINESSES. IN ADDITION, WE HAVE SUPPORTED A SEAMSTRESS, A GRAPHIC DESIGNER, A STONE MASON, A TAXI DRIVER, AND A SURFBOARD SCHOOL INSTRUCTOR TO REBUILD THEIR BUSINESSES. THE SUCCESS OF THESE BUSINESSES CONTINUE TO RIPPLE OUT A POSITIVE IMPACT IN THE COMMUNITY. FOR EXAMPLE, BY REPLACING THE SPECIALTY TOOLS FOR A BOAT-REPAIR CONTRACTOR, HE HAS BEEN ABLE TO HELP REPAIR THE BOATS THAT WERE DAMAGED IN THE FIRES. DISASTER RECOVERY SESSIONS: ONE OF THE MOST VALUABLE AND SOUGHT AFTER OFFERINGS WE HAVE BEEN PROVIDING TO THE COMMUNITY IS OUR DISASTER RECOVERY SESSIONS. PEOPLE HAVE LIKENED THIS TO HAVING THEIR OWN PERSONAL "DISASTER RECOVERY COACH". IN THESE SESSIONS, OUR PROGRAM DIRECTOR PROVIDES A TRAUMA-INFORMED APPROACH TO GUIDING FIRE SURVIVORS THROUGH THEIR UNIQUE NEXT STEPS. ALL OF THE DETAILS ARE RECORDED IN CUSTOM GUIDE BOOKS WHICH CONTAIN CHECKLISTS FOR ACTIONS NEEDED IN THEIR PERSONAL JOURNEY. THIS LEVEL OF CARE AND CONSIDERATION, COUPLED WITH GROUNDED AND TANGIBLE STEPS HAS BEEN INCREDIBLY EMPOWERING AND SUCCESSFUL, REDUCING OVERWHELM AND ALLOWING THEM TO PRECISELY FOCUS ON THE STEPS FOR THE WEEK(S) AHEAD. THESE SESSIONS ARE TRULY THE CORNERSTONE OF HOW WE WORK WITH OUR COMMUNITY IN AN EMPOWERING AND DIGNIFIED MANNER. WE ARE NOT HANDING OUT GIFT CARDS AND WALKING AWAY, WE ARE WORKING TOGETHER TO IDENTIFY EVERY RESOURCE THEY ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THROUGH OUR UP-TO-DATE LIST OF GRANT CLOSURES AND NEW FUNDING STREAMS. THROUGH OUR PROCESS, IN A SINGLE INTAKE MEETING, WE ARE ABLE TO LEVERAGE THE INFORMATION SHARED WITH US IN ORDER TO APPLY FOR UP TO 27 OTHER RESOURCES THAT THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE KNOWN WERE AVAILABLE. SURVIVORS HAVE DES |

WE ARE COMMITTED TO ENSURING NO ONE SLIPS THROUGH THE CRACKS IN THE SYSTEM. DRIVEN BY THE POWER OF COMPASSION AND COMMUNITY, WE STAND AS BEACONS OF HOPE. WE UPLIFT THOSE IN NEED, MEETING THEM EXACTLY WHERE THEY ARE- BRIDGING GAPS AND BREAKING BARRIERS TO ENSURE NO ONE IS FORGOTTEN. WE ARE COMMITTED TO PUTTING THE "RELIEF" INTO "DISASTER-RELIEF,- AND IMPROVING THE SYSTEM-DESIGN FOR DISASTER RECOVERY IN THE FUTURE. WE INSPIRE RESILIENCE, FOSTERING SUSTAINABLE RECOVERY THROUGH EFFECTIVE COLLABORATION AND UNWAVERING DEDICATION. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 1 | THE MAKAI FOUNDATION IS DEDICATED TO HELPING THOSE AFFECTED BY THE MAUI WILDFIRES. 9. VITAL RECORDS REPLACED (ID CARDS/ PASSPORTS/GREENCARDS). |
