Care-Based Safetys mission is to provide a non-police response program that will grow life-affirming support and opportunities for all community members in Washtenaw County. We deliver a community co-created program with two mutually reinforcing aspects: Community Building and Crisis Response. Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

Our organization has a rigorous review process for our Form 990. Our finance circle conducts an initial review to verify that all figures are accurate and reflect our mission and social justice values. This is followed by a board-level review and we also work with external advisors to ensure full compliance and transparency. This multilayered approach ensures our financial reporting is both accurate and accountable.

Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Our organization maintains a robust conflict-of-interest policy that requires all Mission Circle board members and staff to disclose any potential conflicts prior to the initiation of a transaction. Disclosures are carefully reviewed by an independent committee that assesses the situation and if necessary requires recusal from decision-making to ensure impartiality. For ongoing transactions we conduct regular reviews to monitor compliance and quickly address any emerging issues. If a potential or actual conflict is identified after a transaction has occurred a thorough post-transaction review is conducted to determine appropriate corrective measures such as enhanced oversight or an independent audit. All steps from disclosure to resolution are fully documented and discussed at Mission Circle board meetings ensuring our practices remain transparent accountable and in strict adherence to our Mission Circle governance standards.

Through its Ypsilanti Response Pilot Preventing Harm and Crisis Workshop Series and advocacy efforts CBS works to create sustainable life-affirming alternatives to policing and incarceration. CBS prioritizes support for Black and Brown community members those experiencing housing insecurity people with disabilities and individuals impacted by substance use and mental health challenges. By centering care over criminalization CBS is building a safer more just community.

IRS990/MissionDesc0Care-Based Safetys mission is to provide a nonpolice response program that will grow life-affirming support and opportunities for all community members in Washtenaw County. We deliver a community cocreated program with two mutually reinforcing aspects: Community Building and Crisis Response. We respond to conflict and crisis with trauma-informed care; prevent destructive conflict and crisis through skill building and social support; and collaborate with community partners in addressing the root causes of crisis in Washtenaw County MI. We are peer-led and we center those most impacted by state violence: our community members who are Black & brown live with mental illness and disabilities use substances or are housing insecure and or poor as we work to build a future where crisis is met with compassionate care not criminalization. We demand carebased safety for all.
