“Project redwood highlights, fy2023-24 in a time of unprecedented wealth, acute poverty remains a persistent problem. More than a billion and a half people live in poverty worldwide, including 38 million in the united states alone. Since being founded by stanford mba alumni in 2007, project redwood has provided over $5.6 million in financial catalytic capital, as well as in-kind support, to help over 1 million people worldwide improve the quality of their lives. Much alleviation of poverty occurs at the grass roots level. Project redwood focuses our support on small innovative social venture nonprofits, funding well-defined projects with strong short-term outcomes. We supplement grants with mentoring, consulting, and connections to further strengthen these community-based organizations. Project redwood's fy2023-24 milestones include the following: * we completed our first year of operation as an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit, after having been fiscally sponsored for our first 16 years. * we had a record year in fundraising, with donations from 130 stanford business school alumni. * we awarded more than $1.1 million in grants ranging from $40,000 to $55,000 to 27 nonprofit organizations working in africa, latin america, and the united states. From these seeds of solutions, the grantees achieve measurable impact in their local communities and beyond through education, job creation, job training, or entrepreneurship. * five of these awards were unrestricted impact-building grants to previous grantees with demonstrated potential to grow to scale with our support. * our donor/volunteer network continued to expand, with more than 40 stanford alumni classes now engaged, having been incubated initially by the class of 1980.”
